Artist is a short film exploring the struggles of an actor dealing with financial difficulties, relationship tensions, and the pressure of an uncertain career. The conflict between the actor and his wife gradually becomes intertwined with his own internal struggles, creating a world that shifts between reality, memory, imagination, and psychological tension.
The sound design was developed as an important part of this subjective storytelling. Rather than simply reproducing the physical environment, I used sound to reflect the protagonist’s mental and emotional state and to blur the boundary between what is happening around him and what is happening inside his mind.
A large part of the project focused on creating and shaping atmospheric soundscapes for the film’s surreal and psychological sequences. Environmental sounds were carefully designed, layered, and manipulated to create a sense of unease, isolation, pressure, and emotional instability.
The contrast between the ordinary domestic environment and the increasingly distorted inner world of the protagonist was an essential element of the sound design. Changes in ambience, perspective, density, space, and sonic texture were used to gradually intensify the psychological tension and guide the audience deeper into his subjective experience.
The overall soundscape was designed to function as an extension of the character’s mind, allowing the audience to experience his frustration, anxiety, isolation, and internal conflict not only through the story and performances, but also through the sound itself.
