“Family Frights”
Project Overview
My personal project. Family Frights is a mobile slot game with a horror-comedy twist. Players are transported into a spooky mansion where a delightfully oddball family lives alongside their butler, a ghostly former owner trapped in the basement, and a charismatic, talking black cat.
Visual Concept
I was tasked with developing the game’s key icon and visual branding. The icon features the cat character — a mischievous, toothy black feline with glowing yellow eyes — designed to stand out on mobile app stores and convey the game’s eerie-but-fun mood.
Art Direction
The art blends stylized cartoon exaggeration with high rendering detail. Strong contrast, saturated colors, and sharp lighting effects were used to ensure clarity even at small icon sizes.
Tools & Process
I used a semi-realistic digital painting technique to bring the cat to life, carefully controlling shapes, values, and edges to make the character both menacing and appealing.
