uniE608 Masuda Middle School Orchestra At Tet Festival OC
For this project, I was tasked with capturing the full performance of the Masuda Middle School Orchestra at the 2024 Orange County Festival. I worked with two shooters—my assistant operated a stationary camera while I used a gimbal to capture dynamic rolling shots. It was an intensive project, as we only had one chance to get everything right. Additionally, there were multiple production teams at the festival, each handling their own filming and sound design, which added to the challenge. The performers also had to navigate these factors while delivering their best performance. To provide more context and enhance the storytelling, I captured a variety of rolling B-roll shots of the festival, showcasing the environment, the stage, and the people involved. These shots helped paint a fuller picture of where the performance took place and gave a better sense of the energy and atmosphere of the day. I handled the editing process, which took about a month and a half to two months, and delivered the final video within the agreed timeframe. To enhance the audio quality, I mixed the soundboard recordings with two additional audio sources from my cameras, creating a more balanced and natural stage sound. The final deliverables included not only the full performance but also two short promo videos. These acted as a trailer for the event and served as a recruiting tool to attract future students to the orchestra. Despite the limited coverage, we managed to capture the essence of the performance, and the client was pleased with the final result.
uniE608 Complex Concepts at The House of Blues Anaheim
Working with Masuda Middle School in Fountain Valley, California, I was tasked with creating a music video showcasing the performance of their rock band. The project had its challenges, particularly staying within budget. Since the students could only book me for an hour, I had to get creative. I recorded the first half of one band's set and the second half of another, later blending the footage into a slow-motion montage set to one of their studio recordings. To keep the focus on their performance without being an intrusion, I used my camera on a gimbal with no extra lighting, relying solely on the studio lights already set up for the show. This allowed them to perform naturally without any distractions from my equipment. The editing process took a little over a month and a half to complete. In the end, I provided the band leader—the client who hired me—multiple deliverables for him and his students. Along with the final music video, I also captured still images of their event, which I later delivered as well. They could share these on social media and keep them as mementos of their incredible achievement: performing at one of the most renowned rock venues in the area. video videoeditor filmdirector
