paper CASE STUDY 1 – DICOM / PACS Integration Testing

    DICOM Testing
I helped integrate a DICOM application into our PACS. I verified the full image workflow from the
ultrasound device, through DICOM transmission, into PACS, and confirmed radiologists could view the
images on their end. I tested positive and negative scenarios, validated metadata accuracy, and ensured
proper study routing. All defects and verification steps were documented in Jira so issues could be caught
    early before rollout.
Objective: Validate ultrasound image transmission from device to DICOM to PACS and radiologist
    viewer.
Scope: DICOM routing, metadata validation, PACS ingestion, viewer verification, error handling.
Preconditions: Device configured, DICOM nodes active, PACS ready, viewer credentials enabled.
    Test Steps and Expected Results:

    1. Send ultrasound study → Study transmits via DICOM.
    2. Verify PACS worklist → Study visible with correct demographics.
    3. Open in viewer → Images render fully and correctly.
    4. Validate metadata → MRN, name, study type correct.
    5. Send invalid study → PACS rejects or flags error.
    6. Verify radiologist access → Study available without missing frames.
Defects Found: Routing tag mismatch, missing metadata field caused misclassification.
Outcome: Ensured accurate imaging delivery and prevented workflow delays.
