I am a recent graduate of Falmouth University. Having completed an MA in Illustration, Authorial Practice, I am pursuing a career mostly focused in story telling through illustrated mediums. Such as Story books, comics and animation. In my studies I focused mostly on exploring character concepts and world building. Looking at these beyond just the conceptual stage, and exploring how they might change and grow in reflection and in response to an unfolding narrative. Looking at how a characters psychology might inform their development.

uniE621 Fisher and the Sunflower Field
This was my entry to the Faber Comics Competition 2024. I wrote and illustrated a four page story. Which was about a boy looking for a birthday gift for his mother. Coming across a sunflower field he decides that a bouquet of sunflowers would be perfect for her. In this four page comic I really tried to explore the fundamentals of story telling. From the basics of having a 'begging' 'middle' and 'end' and how to express characters by expressing personality, goals and motivations as well exploring their visual design to support facets of character psychology. As well as inserting narrative metaphors reflective of my studies into Joseph Campbells 'The Heroes Journey' using scenes and supporting characters to represent 'Crossing the threshold' 'The Threshold Guardian' 'The Wise Old Man (or in this case a Frog)' and the 'Belly of the Whale'.
    paper Anthology, Taproom Tapestries Collective.
This is an excerpt from my contribution to a collaboration project between me and 7 other graduates of Falmouth University. The goal was to create a short comic based on a chosen theme related to folklore and fantasy. For this anthology (which was our first) the theme was Fairies. My addition to the project is a story about a fairy whose role is similar to the traditional role of the devil. One who collects souls in exchange for whatever the person wants. Dol Goch, which is Welsh for Red Meadow, collects the soul of s Shepard who sold his soul so that his dying daughter could live longer. This story focuses on the day that Dol Goch came to collect what he was owed and the remorse he feels now, so many years after making the deal. I both wrote the story and designed the characters, along with illustrating and rendering the final outcomes. Which was then passed onto another member of the collective who put all the collective works together and printed them as a 70ish page book. which as taken to Thought bubble 2024 and sold quite well!. illustrator

paper Apolius, Self Published Graphic Novel

Apolius was the result of my studies during my MA.

It is a 90 page graphic novel that I wrote and created as a means to practice and develop my understanding in sequential imaging for storytelling, character driven narratives, character development (in both concept and visual development), world building (this included a sci-fi culture that reflect modern ideas taking over). I also explored narrative devices such as language, where I decided to develop my own, so that I could distance my stories world further from reality, to really set the tone of my stories setting.

The main critical voices I studied on this course were, Joseph Campbell, Ursula K Le Guin, Will Eisner, Hirohiko Araki and Kira Anne Pelican.
