paper Flemington Racecourse Documentary | Student Documentary Project

For the documentary project, I worked as the director, editor, and B-roll camera operator. The documentary features Brendan Jackson, a manager at Flemington Racecourse, who talks about the tracks, their maintenance, and the flooding that has occurred. The aim was to give insight into how the racecourse operates behind the scenes and the challenges involved in maintaining it.

My responsibilities included directing the interview, seeking out and organising talent, filming B-roll footage, and editing the documentary together. I focused on capturing visuals that supported what Brendan was discussing and helped make the documentary more engaging and informative.

One challenge I faced was not having enough B-roll footage to fully support the interview. To solve this, I carefully sourced appropriate online footage to fill in the gaps. I also made sure to use this material only for educational purposes, as the project cannot be uploaded publicly or used for financial gain.

As this was my first documentary-style project, I learned a lot about what I struggle with, especially planning and collecting enough supporting footage. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience that helped me understand the importance of preparation and visual storytelling in documentaries.

    paper Fall-A-Saur | Student Project | 2024

A Major Green Screen Project, I worked on filming and editing, and I also appeared as part of the crowd. The project involved creating a scene where a dinosaur falls over using green screen effects. My responsibilities included pressing record for the green screen shots, helping capture the footage correctly, and editing the final project so the dinosaur and background looked realistic together.

One challenge was making sure the green screen footage lined up well with the scene and that the effects looked believable. I helped solve this through careful editing and adjusting the timing and placement of the dinosaur. I am proud of how the final result turned out because the scene was entertaining and showed how green screen technology can be used creatively.

paper For Rich For Poor | Student Short Film | 2025

For my short film, I worked as the director, editor, and screenwriter. The film follows Rose Lacey and Jared Mills, a recently engaged couple whose future begins to fall apart after Jared receives an unexpected phone call from his boss during a dinner. This moment leads to a series of disappointments that affect his sense of purpose and puts strain on their relationship.

My main responsibilities included writing the script, directing the actors, and editing the final film. I worked closely with the cast to shape their performances and make sure the emotions of the story felt realistic. I also edited the film to create a strong flow and maintain the tone of the story.

One of the main challenges was having a very small production team, strict school deadlines, and a low budget. Another difficulty was the audio quality, especially in the restaurant scene, where I had to rely on the audio operator and later spent extra time fixing and improving the sound in editing. I solved these challenges by working harder, learning more about audio, being open to discussion, scheduling carefully, and thinking smarter about how to use our limited budget.

I am proud of the final film, especially considering the challenges we faced. I enjoyed the production process and feel that it helped me grow creatively and technically as a filmmaker.
