My name is Javier Rincon, I am a twenty-eight year old musician and composer from Tasco, Colombia. This is where I began my musical career at the age of fifteen by becoming part of Colombian rock groups and community-based music classes. From there, I studied music and pedagogy where I deepened my knowledge in singing and composition, taking part in choir ensembles which we went on to win the ASCUN prize for the best University ensemble at national level. I carried out and implemented an investigation into the restructuring of a curriculum in a music school, which was used as part of my final project at university.
In 2018 I volunteered for a music-based NGO in Peru, where I took on the role of ensemble director, schoolteacher, and composer. After returning to Colombia, I continued to work professionally as a music teacher and composer. In 2020 I created my first piece “Que es lo que Somos” (what are we), which I entered and was successfully selected for a national competition. This lead me on to compose “Somos Cultura” (We are Culture) in 2021, both gaining me recognition and money prizes.
In 2022 I started to work as a high school teacher where I currently teach music. I create compositions as a tool and structure to support my teaching methodology, as well as an incentive for the students to connect with music and play with their own artistry. The development of my musical and artistic skills is a necessity for my role as an educator, to provide future students with the opportunity to express their ideas and explore new concepts and genres through instruments and technology. In 2022 I visited the United Kingdom with a motive to improve my English communication skills to be able to access further research and education, create compositions using different platforms and familiarise myself to programmes such as Finale, Sibeliuos, Note Performer, Spitfire, and Reaper.
In regard to my professional artistic development, it is important to me to maintain consistent exploration and research, in particular in the areas of singing and composition, this is why I have decided to further my education to provide me with the necessary tools to continue and develop my work as a teacher, musician and composer, with conclusively opting for a master’s degree in composition, with focus in the areas of music pedagogy and compositions for films and video games. I also hope to continue working in investigations and research to explore the integration of sounds across the world, uniting and strengthening cultures through music.
