paper Framing Dallas: Lighting Up City Hall Stories

Framing Dallas: Lighting Up City Hall Stories

For the Dallas City Hall interviews, I set up each shot with the interviewees facing away from Downtown Dallas to emphasize the connection to the city. I lit the subjects using an Amaran 300c light, aided by two smaller GVM lights, to balance the bright background and ensure proper exposure. The interviews were filmed with a Sony FX9 camera, paired with a Sennheiser lavalier microphone for clear audio. During the project, I realized the need for an additional Amaran 300c light to handle the strong backlighting effectively and learned the importance of scheduling shoots earlier to capture the sun at a lower angle, avoiding excessive sky blowout

What Did I Learn from these projects:

Embarking on my professional journey, mastering tracking skills posed an early challenge with a steep learning curve. Despite having a basic understanding, real-world applications demanded a more nuanced approach. The turning point came through hands-on experiences in projects requiring tracking elements, where I navigated challenges, learned to adjust for lighting changes, and dealt with complex backgrounds. Valuable lessons emerged from mistakes, be it refining tracking paths or handling occlusions. I tapped into various resources, from online tutorials to industry forums, to enrich my understanding and foster creativity in exploring advanced features like 3D tracking.
Adopting a mindset of continuous improvement, I stayed abreast of software advancements, refining my skills and strategically integrating tracking into projects. This involved a keen understanding of when and where to use tracking for maximum impact, whether for visual effects, motion graphics, or seamless scene transitions. Achieving efficiency became a priority, leading to improved accuracy and an optimized workflow, particularly in software like After Effects. This transformative journey went beyond mastering a technical skill; it evolved into a tool for creative expression, contributing significantly to my overall growth in the field, with After Effects playing a pivotal role in adding a dynamic and polished dimension to my work.
