When I first started Patch&Bagel, a brand owned under Soodo, the idea was to sell playful gifts and decor to the US and European markets.
Using my expertise in Shopify development, I designed a store that showcased cute night lamps and animal-themed products, which we thought would become our bestsellers.
Along the way, at customers' requests, we added customizable gift options. What started as 1-2 orders per week gradually grew into bulk orders for these customizable gifts.
We began receiving procurement requests from corporate clients, government agencies, and military organizations..
Patch&Bagel had more sales from 1 product than 20+ of the original catalog. This (welcomed) problem had however complicated our brand identity. So, I thought—okay, maybe it’s time to branch out as a new & separate brand.
Less than a year ago, I launched a subsidiary brand on Shopee Singapore—something I had avoided for the longest time due to the incredibly fierce eCommerce market and race-to-the-bottom pricing. Today, it boasts perfect 5-star ratings and plenty of happy customers.
While this was not an overnight success, what makes this story special is that Patch&Bagel is my own & true testament on how online businesses are built on a good amount of determination, store setup and months of trial and error.

Karva Travel reached out to us seeking a custom search filter on their hashtagShopify site, where customers could select the Destination, Year, and Month and be directed to an itinerary brochure.
It was a project we successfully delivered, but not without its initial challenges. Originally, we thought a custom search filter could be easily implemented via an app from the Shopify app store. However, the closest (and free) app we came across was a 'Year, Make, and Model' app designed for tire and car parts businesses.
We resorted to HTML coding. By structuring the code to be as user-friendly and easy-to-handover as possible, we were able to customize this search filter in less than a week.

In the beginning, I turned to Bark.com – a platform that connects service providers like us with potential clients. It wasn't cheap, though. For each lead I contacted, I had to pay between $40-80 just for a phone number and email. Most leads turned out to be poor quality, and I was on the verge of giving up after using up nearly all of my credits on the platform.
Then, by chance, I reached out to the soon-to-be owner of IBZA, a new online store in Singapore specializing in carpets, wall arts and furnishings.
He needed a Shopify store for his business, and I needed my first client. It was the most budget-friendly Shopify store I'd ever created and sold, but it also marked the beginning of many more to come.
