Jonah Eskander is a young yet poised presence in the Sydney music scene. Having grown up with classical piano and cello, he has embraced a variety of musical disciplines that have shaped the multi-faceted musician he is today. He prides himself in being an adaptable and tenacious composer, with an undeniable strength in understanding the orchestra to create modern cinematic textures. With a love for music and film, Jonah took his talents to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he recently graduated from Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music (Composition for Creative Industries). Here, he was mentored under the guidance of Australia’s leading music professionals, expanding his musicality to new heights for diverse commercial mediums. During his studies, he scored several indie shorts and feature films and was approached by Primerchord Music in his second year for his noteworthy score in the thriller short ‘Saving Medusa’ (2022). He has since had music in popular Australian TV shows such as ‘The Great Australian Bakeoff’, ‘Murder Down Under’, ‘Muster Dogs’ and Stan’s ‘Ben Robert-Smith’ Documentary. Aside from TV, Jonah also writes music for the concert hall and dance. His most recent major work Life Before (2024) was a 50-minute body of work for string quintet, percussion and piano – a cinematic inspired fusion of minimalism and neoclassicism. In 2023, he was a shortlisted composer by Sydney Concert Orchestra for his work ‘A Divine Dream’. Jonah is also the newly appointed Associate Conductor of the Australian Christian Orchestra. Jonah additionally works as a sought-after musical director in musical theatre. Jonah has been on the production team for over a dozen productions across Sydney since he began in theatre in 2021. His most recent credits include ‘She Loves Me’ (MMTC), ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ (TRMS) & ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ (TRMS), the latter two earning him nominations for Best Music Direction & Orchestra Performance.
