I am an experienced cameraman with over 18 years currently working as the Head of Cameramen at CGTN Africa. I have chronicled the African continent's triumphs and tribulations, capturing both its moments of joy and its darkest hours. My video journalism journey has taken me to 49 countries of Africa's 54, immersing me in the diverse cultures and landscapes that define this vast continent. I have covered conflicts in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Cameroon and Chad, providing a visual narrative of the countries' struggles, the plight of the survivors and their aspirations. On my many assignments, I have also collected an impressive list of fixers and contacts. This log, especially in East and Central Africa, ensures ease of access to the countries and information while producing pieces in the region. My work has not only documented conflict and turmoil but has also celebrated Africa's triumphs. I have captured the jubilant celebrations of South Sudan's independence, the cultural vibrancy of the African Cup of Nations, and the inspiring stories of ordinary people overcoming adversity. Driven by a passion for conservation and environmental protection, I have turned my lens towards the critical issue of climate change. My documentary, commissioned by WWF Kenya, titled "Save a Generation," brought to light the devastating impact of drought on Kenya's elephant population, sparking a successful campaign to protect these majestic creatures. One of my proudest moments in my career was winning the CNN Africa Journalist Award and the Best TV Features Award in 2012 for a news piece of an African tribe living in Karnataka, Southern India.

paper WWF Kenya Save an Elephant Generation Docu

Imagine a generation of children who have not experienced rainfall since birth due to a prolonged dry spell.

Imagine a generation’s livelihood wiped away. Pastoralist communities who have lost all their livestock to drought.

Imagine an elephant population crash in our generation. Drought is killing juvenile and lactating elephant mothers in Southern and Northern Kenya more than all other threats combined.

This drought is a climate change crisis. It is not a wildlife crisis, it is a crisis for all lives: people, their livestock, and our unique wildlife. We need to help communities around key conservation areas to secure livelihoods for their generation and the future of their children. This crisis is affecting all of us and requires immediate, collective action as we are the very last generation that can make a significant difference.

    paper Africa Tribe in India

The Siddis whose features are remarkably African have lived in the forest in a remote village in India unknown to the rest of the world. Today they have found their space in the complex Indian caste system, and their station in this hierarchy is at the bottom, slightly above the Dalits. Citizen TV’s Tom Mboya spent time in India with a tribe that has preserved their unique African heritage for centuries.

I filmed this feature piece in India in 2011. For it, I won the CNN African Journalist of the year award-2012

    paper WWF Impact Documentary

For five years, with support from the International Climate Initiative (IKI), WWF-Kenya worked with local communities, the Kenya Forest Service, and the Kwale County Government to restore state forests, Kaya forests, and agricultural farmlands through the IKI Kwale. By December 2023, the project had put under direct restoration 6,500 hectares.
