Lana is a South African filmmaker, artist, and academic researcher based between Berlin and South Africa. Her practice examines the intersections of gender, identity, and labor from a feminist and decolonial perspective, with a focus on community and communal narrative creation. Lana works across moving image, photography, sculpture, and performance. Drawing from her background in dance and her academic research in decolonial studies at the University of Potsdam, Lana collaborates with choreographers, performers, and other artists to explore the post-colonial body within public spaces, labour and the natural environment. Through observational approaches and cinematic explorations of time and structure, her work critically questions how labour systems and narratives are constructed and maintained within social contexts and advocates for change to foster the creation of safer, more inclusive spaces. Furthermore, she challenges the current interactions with the environment and works with environmentalists and communities to advocate for sustainable change.
