uniE621 The Quirky Cup Collective | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Packaging Design, Shopify Design
The Quirky Cup Collective is a stationery and accessories brand who crafts lush book-ish goods for passionate readers. Specialising in e-reader accessories, reading journals and all manner of book-centric products (such as journals, bookmarks, enamel pins, stickers), the brand is known for its mix of classic design aesthetic alongside tongue-in-cheek personality. The Challenge While I was originally hired to help maintain the old website, it soon became apparent that the brand would massively benefit from an overhaul of the brand identity and the Shopify website. Founder Sydonie’s detailed product design and lush photography looked incredible but was being held back by simple DIY branding and a personality-free online experience. This project was thus largely about ensuring the brand identity and website experience matched the immaculate experience found in every other part of the business. The Solution The core goal of the brand identity was to induce a feeling of cosiness, luxe opulence and high end detailing. A custom logotype inspired by the historical engraving found in academic buildings feels classic and authoritative and perfectly suits the slightly Victorian-design style of products. The brand icon communicates the idea of how books transport us and open up new worlds by turning the TQCC abbreviation into the top of a vintage feeling key monogram. A rich jewel-toned palette blends with various product ranges while ornamental supporting marks and illustrations provide personality and garnish across packaging and the Shopify build. With 80% of website traffic taking place on mobile devices, all decision-making was centered on making this the best possible experience with mindfulness applied to scrolling, animations and ease of reading. The brand’s digital home keeps to a fairly minimal creamy palette to allow the product photography to sing while considered restructuring of product details allows browsers to totally understand the product features and detailing. uniE621 HeartRadiance | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Packaging Design
HeartRadiance is the long established home of handmade flower essences designed to balance body, mind and spirit through vibrational medicine. Created by hand in Mt Nebo, the brand features a huge range of pure floral essences alongside considered blends and innovative room sprays. The Challenge Initially looking to rework some existing label designs, this project became a full rebrand and redirection for the family-owned HeartRadiance team. After years of thinking small with outdated visuals and packaging, this rebrand saw a confident relaunch of the company inline with their industry credibility and to help build traction for future goals of educational content. The Solution The elegant logotype and flower-inspired icon were developed to better connect with those who may be new to flower essences- they feel contemporary and sophisticated inline with other high-end wellness products. Grainy and directional gradients form the most striking parts of the brand identity and capture the vibrational energy that is at the core of HeartRadiance’s product range and values. With some packaging outcomes being particularly tiny, the intense label hierarchy system meant there was consistency across the range even with content needing to change between product lines. uniE621 Moss & Brooke | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Packaging Design, Shopify Design
Moss & Brooke is an artisanal botanical perfumery specialising in small batch fragrances inspired by dark forests and fairytale florals. Dedicated to creating sensory experiences for their customers, the brand focuses on refined perfumes alongside a range of handcrafted candles and considered skincare. The Challenge Having chosen to niche into high-end botanical perfumery, founder Spencer found that the original brand identity was too generic to stand out on shelves and didn’t communicate the premium offering of the products. The rebrand visuals needed to communicate the magical brand inspiration of the dark forest while still having a wide appeal for wholesale customers. The Solution A cheeky fox was chosen as the brand icon to balance a sophisticated and heritage-inspired logotype. These elements allowed for brand flexibility across a wide range of packaging needs- an especially important consideration when working with tiny fragrance bottle surface area. Inspired by the concept that fragrance can imprint onto you through memory, I chose hand-carved linoprint graphics as the perfect vehicle for communicating that nature can stop you in a moment. With many of the industry competitors favouring dark, gothic aesthetics, I chose to keep all of the packaging light and airy so as to stand out best in nature-inspired product photography. uniE621 Soap Cult Australia | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Packaging Design, Print Design, Shopify Design
Soap Cult Australia creates unusual, ethical soaps that enable self-care to be incorporated into even the busiest of days. Taking inspiration from witchcraft, the occult, secret societies and astrology- every product is infused with ethical production and a commitment to sustainability. The Challenge After 10 years in business with a 100% DIY approach, a new business name heralded a rebrand to better communicate the high quality and uniqueness of the product offering. Maker (and cult leader) Aliya was embarrassed by unboxing videos and found it impacted her desire to develop products or create marketing content. The Solution Inspired by secret societies and a dark occult aesthetic, I created a distinct visual language full of adaptable logo formats and intricate illustrations able to be used flexibly across all brand touchpoints. With the rebrand partially initiated by brand shame over user generated content, I focussed on creating distinctive, professional labels alongside custom stickers, stamps, thank you cards and tissue paper to encourage customers to post their purchases on social media. The clean and adaptable approach to labels also allows for seasonal adaptations- the intricate Victorian-inspired Halloween aesthetic and blood-red Christmas range feels unique but still inline with the core collection. uniE621 The Boldest Co. | Brand Strategy, Brand Identity, Packaging Design, Shopify Design
The Boldest Co. is a range of handmade personal care products that aim to be the everyday moment of self-care for millennial women. With large scale wholesale and community building goals, the brand needed to project confidence and effectively carry core brand messaging. The Challenge With the personal care market so saturated, packaging design needed to stand apart from traditionally ‘feminine’ competitors while clearly communicating the brands’ values and rebellious attitude. More than just a product range- the business seeks to create a community that celebrates imperfection and champions the voices of everyday women and therefore required a brand identity that was adaptable and expandable for future marketing activities. The Solution Inspired by 1960s design, minimal typography and bold colours were combined for a brand identity that feels fresh, confident and exciting. A suite of textured patterns featuring organic shapes help to balance the clean and decisive logotype and supporting brand typography. Each scent family is assigned its own colour-way based on the brand colour palette with the muted rainbow-style aesthetic allowing new ranges to be added over time. Touchpoints such as custom tissue paper and side faces of packaging serve to communicate essential brand messaging with much of the Shopify website design structured to convey the brand values and mission. uniE621 Parallel | Brand Strategy, Brand Identity, Packaging Design, Shopify Design
Located in Auckland (New Zealand), Parallel is a bookstore, coffee house and community space celebrating a love of speculative fiction and the hopeful optimism that comes with it. Inclusivity is at the core of the brand through diverse events and experiences as well as thoughtful genre curation that highlights authors of LGBTQIA+, indigenous, neurodivergent and disabled backgrounds. The Challenge Launching as a brand new business, Parallel needed a distinctive look and feel to stand apart from established online and in-person bookstores. With the speculative fiction genre traditionally being seen as nerdy and for ‘certain kinds of people’, it was essential that the brand felt welcoming and open to new audiences so as to help build community. Inline with the brand values, accessibility and inclusivity needed to be at the heart of all decision making with the brand identity required to balance a more minimal, clean interior aesthetic. The Solution Communicating the joyful, fun perspective of the genre was the most important element of the brand visuals so a vibrant, primary-colour leading palette was a non-negotiable. A simple logotype with quirky proportions (and use of parallel lines) was the perfect minimal accompaniment to the brand icon- a set of legs showing a person falling into an alternative universe. Textured gradients overlay with NASA space photography to create supporting brand textures that balance the clean colour palette with a more traditional sci-fi aesthetic. Brand touchpoints exhibit bold and confident typography that is set in Manuka and Founders Grotesk- typefaces that were designed in New Zealand by Klim Type Foundry. uniE621 Kitiya Palaskas | Shopify Website Design
Kitiya Palaskas is a craft-based designer who specialises in prop and installation design, content creation and illustration as well as speaking and workshop facilitation. In addition to her bold and colourful work, she is known for creating resources and writing blogs around DIY projects as well as issues facing creative business owners. Having developed a range of digital and physical products, it was time to transition Kitiya’s online home from Squarespace to Shopify. The Challenge With such a colourful aesthetic it was tricky to find a balance between a fun website experience that felt on-brand as well as a more minimal backdrop for portfolio projects to shine. The existing website had a minimal services page that didn’t celebrate Kitiya’s vast experience and included only surface level details (a potential blocker for enquiries). The new website needed to serve multiple audiences (potential clients, creatives interested in written resources and DIY-ers looking for projects and small products) and therefore lots of content needed to be audited and organised to allow for best user flow. The Solution In the strategy phase, we identified that having a potential client enquire was the biggest goal for the website and therefore large CTA’s were created on portfolio and service pages in addition to a rotating prompt on every page. A fun base theme that featured parallax and moving components helped communicate the fun and lively attitude of Kitiya’s work without crowding brand imagery. A functional and easy to navigate portfolio was created (a tricky task on Shopify) as well as extensive resources pages that focussed on growing Kitiya’s email list. uniE621 Live A Love Riot | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Social Media Templates
Vicki Garcia is a highly experienced guide that works to empower people to be their most confident and genuine selves. Her premier offering Live A Love Riot includes private and group coaching options as well as human design. The Challenge Vicki required a brand that perfectly communicated her blended approach of training and experience with intuition and emotional insight. Working in a very saturated market, it was essential that LALR stood out from competitors with a visual language that felt luxe and high-end but was also approachable. The Solution Vicki’s approach (and desired aesthetic) was all about conveying contrast and a dark elegance. A custom logotype featuring sharp angles and flowing curves helps to showcase this alongside a rich jewel-tone inspired colour palette. Supporting graphics see botanicals and anatomical elements (a reference to Vicki’s scientific background) be used to create expressive collage-style assets that can be layered for impact or used alone for a minimalist feel. My favourite part of the brand identity sees rich historical paintings be ‘glitched’ as another way to showcase the duality of Vicki’s methodology. See the full project: https://www.twine.net/signin
uniE621 Wicker Darling | Brand Strategy, Brand Design, Packaging Design, Document Design, Shopify Design
Designed in Melbourne, Wicker Darling designs uniquely ridiculous handbags that spark conversation wherever they go. Ethically manufactured by Filipino ateliers, these wicker wonders are pure joy in bag form and are designed for the dopamine-dresser looking to stand out. The Challenge When founder Jasmine designed and manufactured a flamingo purse for herself, she didn’t realise how much the business would grow and therefore never created a full brand identity. The original basic Canva-created logo was generic and didn’t adequately represent the fun, energetic spirit of the brand nor the high-end, luxury status of the products. As the business grew (and became a staple for quirky dressers), the need for a polished brand identity that elevated the brand without losing the fun became essential. The Solution Inspired by retro Palm Springs vacations (and the classic postcards that accompany them) the brand identity showcases a tropical, energetic colour-palette. The logo combines a quirky serif with a neon-style flamingo icon- a nod to the first bag and starting point for the label. I created a range of postal-inspired marks and illustrations inspired by Australiana to add personality to small touchpoints and for easy layering when creating social media content. As part of the rebrand, I established a photographic style for creating content (and transforming audience images) that brings joyful celebration into every image (without overpowering the products).
