Star Citizen Engine Sound Redesign | Sound Design Showcase

Helloo, for this 3 day project, I redesigned the engine audio for a Star Citizen cinematic with a strong focus on creating a dynamic and believable sci-fi propulsion system. The engine was built from scratch using three separate synthesized layers in Vital (low, mid, and high frequencies), each serving a distinct purpose within the overall sound.
To make the engine feel more alive and responsive, I automated panning, volume, and subtle pitch changes to follow the spacecraft’s movement throughout the cinematic. Additional impact and weight were achieved by layering low-frequency explosions into the engine, while recordings of real jet aircraft were used to create convincing whooshes and movement during fly-bys.
To enhance the sense of scale and mechanical complexity, I incorporated high-frequency mechanical room recordings, metal rattles, and structural movement sounds. A subtle atmospheric pad was also placed beneath the mix to add depth and reinforce the sci-fi setting without distracting from the engine itself.
Throughout the project, I used processing such as distortion and saturation to add grit, texture, and character to the engine, with the primary goal of avoiding a static sound and creating a more engaging, evolving soundscape that responds naturally to the visuals.
