Matthew Cummings is a composer and sound artist born in Arlington, Virginia, with a background in classical performance and a passion for experimental audio. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Music in Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA) at Oberlin Conservatory, where he has developed a distinctive style of music for games, film, and interactive media. Originally trained as a cellist, Matthew performed with the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and was a fellow of the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship Program at the Kennedy Center. He also attended the Walden School’s online summer program in 2020, where he began exploring composition and sonic experimentation. At Oberlin, he immersed himself in both electroacoustic composition and sound design, eventually focusing his work on game audio and multimedia projects. During his internship with composer Erik Desiderio in Los Angeles, California, Matthew gained valuable experience working in the professional field of music for media, understanding both the technical and business aspects of the industry. Matthew became more fluent with industry-standard tools like Cubase and FMOD, improving both his compositional workflow and sound design capabilities. Upon completing his studies, Matthew continues expanding his work in game audio and interactive media. His proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as FL Studio, combined with his versatile compositional abilities and video editing skills, has enabled him to create a variety of projects, including his YouTube channel, degree recitals, and various live performances on campus. Drawing on his classical training and his passion for innovation, Matthew is poised to bring fresh perspectives to the world of game audio and interactive sound design.
