I began my career illustrating as a freelancer for young-adult non-fiction publications in San Diego, CA. While there, my work expanded into the realm of medical and anatomical art. I collaborated with authors and experts to create digitally rendered illustrations for publications that illuminate concepts in the health sciences, the body, and nature. Beyond medical illustration my artistic range includes cartooning, watercolor, technology/scientific illustration, botanical art, digital illustration and line art. I have authored and illustrated 12 instructional books for budding artists on topics and styles ranging from cartooning using digital media to watercolor painting sea life for Walter Foster Publishing. In 2025 Pegasus Publishing published my children’s picture book Pollywog! Not a Frog, which I wrote and illustrated. I now live in Duluth, Minnesota with my wife their two children near the shores of Lake Superior, always ready and excited to explore a new illustration challenge.

    uniE621 Pollywog! Not a Frog
Pegasus Publishing chose my book for publication that I both wrote and illustrated by hand in watercolor. This rhyming story explores what tadpoles and children hold in common: big imaginations, an impatience to grow up, and the surprise of what life actually has in store. A tadpole with a crisis of identity discovers she is not yet a frog, but for now a “pollywog”. She sings about her imagined life as an adult frog while new and different frog species accumulate on each page in the pond. The frogs’ various attributes inspire her verses and she playfully mimics the abilities she hopes to possess (hopping legs, sticky toes, etc…) What kind of frog will she be? And with that heron edging closer, will she get the chance to find out? The story aims to be both playful and educational aimed at children 3-7 with a curiosity about the natural world, like to imagine growing up, and are emerging into unique identities of their own.
