    Hoodies for the Homeless Music Video by Sean Wehrli and Mayukh Goswami

    Director/animator duo Sean Wehrli and Mayukh Goswami back up rappers Dave East, Jay Electronica, and Tavis Sage with a hand-crafted music video full of grit and shadows for NYC non-profit Hoodies for the Homeless.

    Sean Wehrli: “The brief was wide open but they were thinking animated because Jay Electronica doesn’t like to appear in music videos.

    “I couldn’t think of many examples of great animated performance videos. So I wanted to focus on that juxtaposed with the story of one man’s struggle.

    “The entire video was created remotely by Mayukh and myself. The subway performance shot (as one example) was created with five layers of the train drawn by Mayukh. I then put them into 3D space and added a camera move and color. The movement of light was created with many drawn shadow passes.

    “The performance footage was created using cel animation by hand. Mayukh is a beast. We had no reference for Dave East and Jay Electronica. Tavis provided a performance reference but it wasn’t rotoscoped.”
