Mehreen Jabbar is an award winning and critically acclaimed director, producer and editor with two decades of experience. Her catalog of directorial work includes two feature films, multiple TV and streaming series’, shorts and corporate videos. Her TV series themes have ranged from slice of life and intimate portrayals of human relationships ranging from the TV serial ‘Jackson Heights’ to exploring the horror of child marriage in Pakistan in ‘Rehaai’ (Release), to celebrating friendship between 3 women in a chaotic urban city of Karachi in the limited series Farar (Escape). Most of her projects have had strong female characters at the center and they come from all economic spheres, ages and walks of life. The genres have been a mix of drama, dramedies and thrillers. Mehreen’s first feature film, Ramchand Pakistani, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize and the Satyajit Ray Award. It was also screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and released theatrically in Pakistan, India, and the United Kingdom, with digital distribution in the US. Her second feature, Dobara Phir Se (Deja Vu) was released theatrically in Pakistan, the UK, the USA, and the UAE and was showcased at a number of film festivals, including the Seattle South Asian Film Festival and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival. In recent years Mehreen has directed episodic series for streaming platforms and cable channels. These include Ek Jhoothi Love Story (A False Love Story) and Farar (The Escape), both of which were created for Zee5, one of India’s largest streaming platforms and Jurm (The Crime), a 4 episode limited series for GEO TV, Pakistan. Mehreen is a seasoned professional with extensive expertise in corporate videos and branded narrative content. As a freelance director/producer, she has collaborated with renowned organizations, including IQVIA's Talent and Learning department, a prominent American multinational company in the health information technology and clinical research sectors. Additionally, she has worked with HarperCollins Publishers, New York, capturing behind-the-scenes moments of some of the industry's top book cover photo shoots. She has also directed branded narrative TV series for multinationals such as Coca Cola and Continental Biscuits. Mehreen has served as a directing mentor at Mira Nair's ‘Maisha Film Lab’ in Uganda. She has served as a jury member for numerous South Asian film festivals. She has also been a panel speaker at a number of film forums, and spoken at universities including NYU, Columbia University, University of Hawaii, St. Mary's College, Maryland, St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, and Kings College, UK.
