Hi, I’m Michael Onyango, a dedicated software engineer, UI/UX designer, and technology mentor with a strong passion for building impactful digital solutions. Over the years, I’ve combined my technical skills and leadership abilities to empower young people and create real-world software products that solve everyday problems. I currently serve as the Vice Chairman of the Ajira Club at Kisii University and also lead Lakeside Devs, a vibrant tech community based in Kisumu that brings together developers and innovators to collaborate on meaningful projects and organise hackathons that solve community challenges. Through Lakeside Devs, I’ve trained and mentored dozens of young developers in Android app development and web technologies, helping them gain hands-on experience in coding, UI/UX design, and product development. Beyond leadership, I’ve worked with Ahero Merchants as a virtual assistant, supporting digital operations and online business management. I’ve also developed several software projects, including: - A student management web app for tracking academic records and attendance. - A community service mobile app designed to connect volunteers with local initiatives. - A personal finance tracker that helps users budget and monitor their daily expenses. What truly sets me apart is my commitment to both innovation and mentorship — I don’t just create solutions; I build people. I’m passionate about using technology to transform ideas into practical, user-centred systems that make life easier and inspire the next generation of developers.

Education

Software engineering at Kisii university
July 23, 2024 - December 28, 2028
I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering at Kisii University, where I’m gaining in-depth knowledge of computer systems, programming, and software development processes. My studies cover key areas such as system analysis and design, web and mobile application development, database management, algorithms, and cybersecurity. Through hands-on coursework and projects, I’ve developed strong skills in programming languages like C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, and have built several applications that focus on solving real-world problems through technology. Kisii University’s program emphasizes both theory and practical implementation, which has helped me strengthen my ability to design scalable software solutions, manage collaborative projects, and apply engineering principles to improve system performance and user experience. Beyond academics, I actively participate in the Ajira Club and Lakeside Devs, where I apply classroom knowledge in real projects, mentor peers, and contribute to innovation-focused community initiatives.

    paper Web UI development

I recently developed a fully functional website for the Kisii University Ajira Digital Club, designed to serve as a digital hub for students, mentors, and digital professionals within the Ajira ecosystem. The platform was built to showcase the club’s activities, promote digital skills training, and connect students with online work opportunities offered through the Ajira Digital Programme.

The website features an intuitive UI/UX design, ensuring easy navigation and accessibility across both desktop and mobile devices. It includes sections for news updates, upcoming events, member registration, mentorship programs, and project showcases, all organized to reflect Ajira’s mission of empowering youth through digital work.

Technically, the site was developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, with a responsive design that adapts to various screen sizes. I also implemented a dynamic content management structure, enabling club administrators to easily update information and manage digital resources without technical assistance.

This project strengthened my skills in frontend and backend development, user interface design, and content management, while demonstrating my ability to translate organizational goals into a functional, visually appealing, and impactful digital solution.
