Patricia González Irala

I’m Patricia González Irala, though everyone calls me Pachu, and I’m the person behind MofletesColorados: an illustrator specialising in editorial illustration, health communication and brand illustration.

For more than 20 years I worked as a project manager in advertising. That’s where I learned to read a brief, meet deadlines and never lose sight of what each piece is for. I brought all of that with me when I made the leap into illustration, and it’s what allows me today to see a project through from the first idea to the final file.

I started with children’s picture books, such as Teta y Teto and Pan con aceite y miel, though there are many more, and I even wrote some of them myself. In November a new one joins them: Mi mamá está cansada, published by Carambuco, a book about motherhood when you live with a chronic illness. I’ve worked with publishers such as Tramuntana, Somos Libros and Libros.com.

Then came popular science books. In Tu microbiota adolescente en acción I tried my hand at the graphic novel for the first time, and I also took care of the full layout in InDesign.

Advertising campaigns are my favourite territory, because they let me bring my two worlds together. I’ve created illustrated carousels for Quirónsalud, built on my own creative concept; the iconography and character for Pazy’s TV spots; and illustrated pieces for LaTrama Learning Partners.

I also work with health professionals to help their messages be understood and remembered, with posters like the Bristol Stool Scale or the illustrations for La vida que nos habita, Dr Silvia Gómez Senent’s latest book on women’s microbiota.
