I’m Alena (Nickname: Alexei) Firlie. I’m nonbinary, neurodivergent, and full of enthusiasm for life, which I feel my experience represents to the best of my ability. I’ve worked a lot of retail and I’ve gotten a theater degree (BFA: Acting Track from NKU) and I’m a retired professional violinist of fifteen years. I feel like I’m filling out my bingo card very nicely with where I’ve worked and amassed a lot of real world experience to reflect back on most of my life. This diversity of workplaces and volunteer experiences and underpaid passion projects has helped me feel prepared for any situation I could be placed in. Most recently, I’ve been volunteering at a Horse-back Bed and Breakfast in Kentucky and before that, I scooped ice cream as a Team Lead for Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Norwood. I’ve had a full time gig scooping loose-leaf tea and I’ve even started and run my own theater company for a little over two years. There are few things in the world I know as well as the violin, but I feel like my ability to learn started with the violin itself when I began learning to play at age 2 and performing professionally at age 15. Few things prepared me for life better than learning how to do something that requires focus and grit and creativity and most of all, remaining calm under pressure while performing in front of audiences ranging between 10 people and 500 at such a young age and improving on it piece by piece for 28 more years. As far as managerial work, I’ve managed a lot of things over the course of my working life. Not all of it has been retail, but all of it has been people and the majority of it has been on a time crunch where lots of reputations and jobs were on the line. Should you consider me for the role, I would be delighted to embark on a new adventure. Sincerely With Warmth, Alena “Alexei” Firlie
