Oguz Kaplangi is a composer, sound designer and music producer based in Edinburgh and Istanbul, working internationally across film, theatre, and television. His music is known for blending Middle Eastern and Mediterranean traditions with contemporary cinematic sound, often drawing on Arabic maqam and traditional instruments such as oud, qanun and ney. He has scored eighteen feature films, including Turkish box office hits and Turkey’s first animated feature Bad Cat, as well as numerous UK shorts and documentaries. His theatre work includes composing the score for Wajdi Mouawad’s stage adaptation of Incendies and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s A Museum in Baghdad, both noted for their culturally authentic and emotionally resonant soundscapes. Oguz is also the producer of several ethnic-electronic albums, including the Istanbul Calling series and Techno Roman Project, where he reimagined traditional sounds within modern frameworks. Beyond composition, his music has featured widely on US television (Wahlburgers, Nightwatch, Lock Up, Bizarre Foods and more), and he has composed for major advertising agencies including CP+B, Wieden+Kennedy, Ogilvy & Mather, and Saatchi & Saatchi. As founder of Creatrax (Edinburgh) and Elec-Trip (Istanbul), and music supervisor for Express Jingles, Oguz continues to bridge cultures and genres, bringing a distinctive voice to narrative projects worldwide.
