The musician career started relatively late, when I was 17 y.o., the same way it happened to many fellow bass players: I had to play bass in a band. Since I just moved to Rome, I spent more time practicing the instrument than anything else. Apparently, the Eternal City did not strike me as much as Florence did. In fact, I moved back to Florence when I had the chance, and entered in a Viking Metal band called Wolfingar. We had a good success, making it to the newspapers a couple of times and winning the public vote during the Maggio Off, an event held by the illustrious Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Unfortunately, after some disagreement with other group members, me and the keyboardist left the band. From there on I focused my musical work mainly on personal projects: Maelstrom, Northern Mass, Ferdinando Valsecchi are the ones I’ve already published online, however there are more, waiting for me to polish them and get them out. Other projects have seen myself working as a composer, mainly for fixed media and video games. As a Sound Designer and Post-Production engineer I've started working fairly early on music related content. I've then focused on the sound and mixing for fixed media in my final undergraduate year at the University of Florence, writing 33000 words on the work of Christopher Nolan and how the sound was approached differently in two of his movies (Inception and The Dark Knight Returns). Right now I'm doing a Master in Sound Design at the University of Edinburgh, where I've had the chance to approach "sound" from several points of view. In Edinburgh, I've started collaborating with an independent production company called Outer Limits Prod., both as a Sound Designer for some of their work (alongside Dee O'Leary) and as a Mixing/Online engineer. I've also gained experience in many fields other than the fixed media, such as video games, programming audio (Max MSP) and sound design for small devices (i.e. a smartwatch).

I am a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, arranger, and guitar teacher. I have been playing music for more than half my life and I still love it. Ever since I picked up a guitar at 14 years old, I have been continuing to grow and develop as a musician.

The Rogue Thumb is a part of the hand that belongs to Kuba 'Pasti' Pastuszak. Kuba, originally from Świdnik (Poland) has spent last 8 years in Edinburgh (UK), where he currently resides in. He spends most of his time in the Edinburgh University, working towards his PhD in Physics. However, when the time allows and opportunity emerges, he gives his creative-self a go ... and this is when The Rogue Thumb wakes up. Sitting in his little home studio-bedroom, being a self-taught friend with Ableton Live, Kuba and The Rogue Thumb take voyages into the creative sides of music universe. The Thumb incorporates synths, pads, samples, live instruments and random sounds into soundscapes that come out of these music joyrides. Whatever comes out is a mixture of slow and fast, ambient and rough, dark and light, good and bad. Sometimes illustrative, sometimes just a beat, The Thumb does not narrow itself down to a particular genre and tries to stay open minded. Hence, the music here, that's just the Thumb being Rogue, taking the ride from the daily world of hands and faces, science and polite gestures . Whether bad or not, the Thumb takes a pleasure out of every piece, sound and note it makes. And so find them dropped down here, some of the fruits of Thumb's little music production hobby. Enjoy them, share them, like them, eat them. If you like some of the stuff here, the Thumb is gladly twitching out of happiness ! If you don't ... well, then the Thumb won't be sad! It stays Rogue, it stays glad ! (Currently looking for a label to release some of the stuff I made and I am currently working on. Contact: _Email not available. A man who took a wander down some strange and twisted alleyways. A producer who, while exploring the outer edges of electro, hip-hop and breaks, never stopped listening to and mixing techno, finding in its linear progression a different kind of complexity to the SF-inspired, bass-driven experimentalism of his first clutch of releases. This is the story of Ghost by Nature, an alias of producer Gary Crowne, aka Black Lantern mainstay Krowne. In a way, Ghost by Nature is the first alias, the source code, the ghost in the machine that is Krowne himself. Growing up, his biggest love was techno music, but it wasn't until he became involved with regular Edinburgh techno shindig 4X4, as promoter and resident DJ, that he decided to finally release some techno. The new beats required a new alias, and so Ghost By Nature was born. Like his work as Krowne and as one half of Kromatic, liquid funk basslines drive the tracks. They are laced with with deep, percussive synth riffs, shimmering across driving, many-layered rhythms. It is futuristic, and futurist, like all good techno. With ghostly washes of acid house, Detroit techno and slick electro felt througout the tracks, this is an album as rooted in electronic music history as it is in science fiction's speculative approach. A new era for Krowne, and a new sound for Black Lantern. Ghost by name...

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a music producer?

Great question!

Music producers are essentially project managers for recording-based projects. They work directly with the artist to navigate the recording process and ensure the finished recording is the best it can possibly be.

A producer’s duties will typically include:

  • Planning all logistical aspects of the recording process
  • Serving as the middleman between the artist & engineer
  • Coaching the artist to perform at their very best
  • Making suggestions to the arrangement & song structure

Many freelance music producers are also well-versed in other relevant skills, such as:

  • Engineering
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • Songwriting

Therefore, if you’re looking for an all-encompassing production process, be sure to include any additional skills you require in your project brief.

When hiring a creative, be sure to get a full overview of the videographer’s skills to determine whether or not you’ll need to hire additional personnel for your project (such as a director or a post-production engineer).

Why hire a music producer?

Here’s the deal:

After spending a significant amount of time writing a track from scratch…

...it becomes impossible to hear it from an audience perspective.

Similarly, if you’re focussed on the logistical and technical aspects of the recording process…

...this can pull you out of the creative headspace you need to be in to produce a top-quality product.

A freelance music producer serves as a fresh set of ears on your track, providing the necessary guidance to take things from demo-level to a commercially-viable product.

With a producer handling the logistics, you’re able to focus solely on being the music, leading to a better-quality performance.

What are you waiting for?

Post a job on Twine now and be matched with a wide range of high quality music producers for hire in a matter of hours.
