Hello, my name is Ozlem. Born in Istanbul in 1977 and grown up in the old city, I was always inspired by the city walls of Istanbul. I have been drawing and painting ever since, and in my childhood I aspired to be an engineer because of my technical skills. My interest in arts and digital graphics grew while I was studying Industrial Design at Istanbul Technical University. I worked on UX Design for games and simulations, architectural and military visualization projects, flight and driving simulators before moving to New York City in 2000. From then on, I worked as an interior designer for many years. After I painted a mural for one of my projects, I started getting a lot of work solely on designing and painting large scale murals. I also embed three dimensional elements in my paintings. I love traveling and museums are my favorites.

    paper Playground NYC

Playground: NYC is a hand-painted skateboard deck series that reclaims New York’s industrial landscape through the lens of childhood imagination. Bridges, cranes, viaducts, and water towers—structures built for function and often overlooked—become sites of play when giant children enter the scene. The work pairs architectural accuracy with a deliberate shift in scale: the city remains real, but our relationship to it changes. Each piece is painted on a pre-loved skateboard—an object that once carried the energy, risk, and freedom of a young person’s daily life. By giving these boards a second life, the series honors their history and transforms them into new artifacts of play, memory, and possibility—inviting viewers to look again, to feel wonder in the familiar, and to restore a sense of joy, tenderness, and empathy to the built environment.
