My design philosophy revolves around functional sustainability. With intimate understanding of the user problem, I believe that any product can be made a straightforward solution that remains relevant through the test of time. With 4 years of experience surrounding design work and 2 years in Industrial Product Design, I have created and aim to continue creating such staples of user experience. My time in charity work and customer service also define my empathetic approach to design that satisfies both clients and employers.

Industry Experience

paper LaundroAid: The Low-Light Laundry Assistance Tool

Primary accounts and empathy group testing showed organization of laundry after washing to be a common difficulty for visually-impaired users. Thus, I designed an all-in-one hanger, fold guide and identification product to be used throughout the entire process. Prototype testing showed a 34% increase in speed of organizing.

paper LUPA Upcycled Seatbelt Weave Furniture

While most parts of scrapped vehicles are recycled, their seatbelts are sent directly to landfill. Our team addressed this by weaving the waste seatbelts into replacement slings for lawn chairs, the wicker slings of which deteriorate faster than the frame, rendering it unusable despite remaining functional. The product was pitched to and approved of by a panel of five industry professionals, and a survey of the target user group showed that 79% were eager to see the product in their homes.

    paper WH-CH720N Headphone Stand

Using top-down design methods and CNC manufacturing, our 4-person team created a high-value addition to Sony WH-CH720N Headphones to solve the problem of a cluttered work surface. We engaged in digital modelling through Fusion 360, then created a functional 1:1 scale prototype using a CNC mill and water jet cutter with recycled materials (leftover rimu stock and sheet metal). The outcome required minimal hand finishing and led to my proficiency in translating digital designs into a physical product, as well as additional knowledge in how to streamline manufacturing.
