In 2018, the graphic identity of “ÀCORDA - Encontro de Cordofones Tradicionais Portugueses (Traditional Portuguese String Instruments Meeting)” was created. This project consists of an annual public event dedicated to traditional Portuguese string instruments.
Its primary objective is to draw the attention of the general public – and academics in particular – to the interest and urgency of reviving a large part of traditional Portuguese string instruments, promoting the preservation of traditional knowledge regarding instrumental musical practices, the construction of musical instruments and the conservation of repertoires. It is this major goal of safeguarding, recommended by the UNESCO Convention, that the event aims to achieve.
This project aims to give a voice to one of the instruments that has been most affected by the lack of encouragement to play it, namely the viola toeira, an instrument characteristic of the Coimbra area and one of the most complex traditional Portuguese violas in terms of both construction and performance. On the other hand, it proposes to promote the preservation of traditional Portuguese music, especially that linked to Portuguese string instruments, and its dissemination.
The visual identity created for this event communicated the personality, values and essence of this project. The colour palette consisted of black and brown, as these colours remind us of wood, which is the raw material used to make string instruments, as well as the visual appearance of string instruments. The font used was ‘Futura Pt’. A logo was created right away and applied to various promotional materials, such as posters, concert tickets, document covers, badges for participants and Pins.

Design of the book 30 Years of Social Action at IPC in 2025.

The book presents the 30-year history of social action at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, one of Portugal’s largest higher education institutions, and celebrates its historical legacy with the faces and testimonies of the people who have made and continue to make social action happen every day at this institution.

The book’s design conveys the history and contemporary nature of the Social Action Service through the colour palette used (yellow, which refers to a past institutional identity, and black, which refers to the current institutional colour), the corporate fonts used (Inter Family as the main font and Playfair Display as the secondary font) and the clean and balanced design (maintaining seriousness and focusing on the message). The use of large-scale photographs was a visual reinforcement strategy to express and reinforce the book’s mission, to present and thank each employee who is dedicated to social action.
