Clockwork Finch: Storybook Illustration of an Inventor Girl

Every great story has a moment where the reader falls for the character. This scene is built for that moment: a young inventor in brass goggles, her chin on her hand, smiling at the tiny clockwork finch she just built.
I designed the whole attic workshop to tell her story without a word of text. Blueprints of the finch cover the wall and the desk, brass gears and tools fill the shelves, and a cat naps on a trunk. A round window shows a village spire in the distance. Warm sunlight pulls the eye to her face and the little bird.
Created as a concept illustration, it shows how I turn a character description into a finished scene with emotion, depth, and a clear focal point. It works as a picture book spread, a chapter opening, or a cover.
