Brand Designer & Book Illustrator | Brand Identity, Character Design & Book Illustration

I’m Qobid, a brand designer and book illustrator working with businesses, self-published authors, and independent creators who need purposeful visual design tailored to their projects.

Brand Design: I create custom logos, complete brand identity systems, color palettes, typography systems, and branded marketing materials. Each project is developed around the business’s positioning, target audience, and intended use, ensuring the visual elements work together consistently across platforms.

Book Illustration: I specialize in children’s book illustrations, character design, fantasy scenes, and book covers. I translate written descriptions into distinctive characters with carefully considered facial features, clothing, expressions, and body language. For illustrated stories, I pay attention to character consistency, scene composition, and the visual details that help communicate the narrative.

My illustration workflow begins with a black and white sketch for reviewing the character’s appearance, pose, and expression before moving into final coloring. This gives you an opportunity to provide feedback before the artwork is completed. Final files are prepared in high resolution for the agreed print or digital publishing format.

Character Sketch Preview: If you have a character in mind, you can request an initial rough black and white sketch for a small fee. Share your character description and visual references, and I’ll aim to respond within 48 hours with an initial concept, subject to project requirements and availability.

Whether you need a distinctive brand identity or illustrations that bring your manuscript to life, send me your project brief, references, and goals. I’ll review your requirements and help define the right visual direction for your project.

What does an outdoor publisher look like before it prints a single page? This concept answers that: a forest green and ochre identity for Evergreen Field Notes, an independent publisher of field journals, nature guides, and outdoor essays. The brand starts with a mountain and pines emblem and grows into everything a book brand needs. I designed a gold foil hardcover journal, hand drawn style botanical pages (trillium, sword fern, and Douglas-fir), an embroidered trail patch, a hang tag, and a color palette and icon set that keep every piece consistent. Inside the system: Logo and emblem with the tagline "Books for a wilder tomorrow" Journal cover design with gold detailing Interior page spread with botanical illustrations and handwritten notes Patch, tag, and brand statement panels Four color palette and icon elements (trees, mountains, water, sun) Created as a concept to show how I connect illustration, cover design, and branding for authors and small publishers. Publishing a nature book, a journal, or a series that needs a cohesive look? Send me your idea and I'll reply with a free sketch.

The problem: Wellness studios often look either too clinical or too trendy. A new yoga and movement studio needed a brand that felt calm, human, and welcoming. The solution: Stillform, a complete brand identity concept built around one flowing figure mark that suggests movement and balance. What's in the system: Primary logo with the tagline "Movement, Wellness, Belonging" Logo variations on cream, terracotta, and deep green A four color earthy palette Serif and sans-serif type pairing Mockups: studio signage, water bottle, yoga mat, business card, and social post Short brand lines like "Move. Breathe. Reset. Belong." Created as a concept to show how I turn a mood and a message into a consistent visual system. Launching a brand, a series, or a book that needs a cohesive look? Send me your idea and I'll reply with a free sketch.

A tiny knight. A glowing lantern. A whole kingdom to cross. This paper craft style illustration shows a small hero in a red cape stepping across a stone bridge at night, with a hillside castle, a lit village, a waterfall, and a moonrise behind him. The lantern is the warmest point in the scene, so the eye goes to him first and then drifts through the town. What I focused on: Scale: a very small character against a very big world, which makes the story feel like an adventure. Texture: layered, folded-paper surfaces on the bridge, trees, and rooftops. Light: warm windows and lanterns against a deep teal night. Story details: matching banners along the bridge and a little sailboat waiting at the dock. Created as a concept illustration. It fits a children's adventure book, a fantasy chapter opening, or a cover. Have a brave little hero who needs a world? Send me your character description and I'll reply with a free sketch.

A story with a squad needs three characters a reader can tell apart in silhouette. This sheet is built for that: three heroes for a sci-fi novel or graphic novel, designed to look distinct and still feel like one crew. Each hero gets a front and side view, three head angles with a shift in expression (stern, relaxed, grinning), and their own signature gear. The scarfed scout wears layered utility gear. The cloaked field medic has a white cape lined in teal. The heavy bruiser carries a broad cloak, armored boots, and a tattooed scalp. Inked linework, muted greys, and teal tech accents tie them together. Created as a concept design to show how I build a cast for authors, game writers, and comic creators: clear silhouettes, costume logic, and expressions that carry personality. Writing a sci-fi or fantasy cast? Send me your character descriptions and I'll reply with a free sketch.

Some picture books are remembered for one quiet moment between two characters. This spread is built around that moment: a grandmother and her granddaughter kneeling in a dusk garden, planting glowing seeds into dark soil. I used light to carry the story. Each seed glows gold, so the eye travels from the grandmother's hand to the child's smile and across the garden bed. Behind them, a lit cottage window, a lantern, a village by the lake, and a sunset sky in orange and violet frame the scene. Small details reward a second look: a sleeping cat on the stone wall, a robin on the watering can, and fireflies drifting through the flowers. Made as a concept illustration to show how I handle warm, multi-generational characters, layered depth, and a mood strong enough to open a chapter or sit on a cover. Working on a story about family, nature, or a magical place? Send me your scene description and I'll reply with a free character sketch.

Every great story has a moment where the reader falls for the character. This scene is built for that moment: a young inventor in brass goggles, her chin on her hand, smiling at the tiny clockwork finch she just built. I designed the whole attic workshop to tell her story without a word of text. Blueprints of the finch cover the wall and the desk, brass gears and tools fill the shelves, and a cat naps on a trunk. A round window shows a village spire in the distance. Warm sunlight pulls the eye to her face and the little bird. Created as a concept illustration, it shows how I turn a character description into a finished scene with emotion, depth, and a clear focal point. It works as a picture book spread, a chapter opening, or a cover. Writing a story with an inventor, a creature, or a magical place? Send me your scene description and I'll reply with a free character sketch.

A concept brand identity and packaging system for a specialty coffee roaster. The goal was a look that feels premium, calm, and a little mysterious, so the bags stand out on a shelf full of loud designs. At the center is a hand engraved style illustration of a nightjar bird on a coffee branch, set against a crescent moon. I built the full system around it: a logo lockup, three bag designs for three roasts (Mountain Dawn, Midnight Blossom, Shadow Ridge), tasting-note labels, side panel patterns, and matching cards. Copper and cream tones on deep brown carry the same story across every piece. Delivered as a concept, with layouts ready to adapt for print. Launching a coffee brand or a book with a strong visual identity? Send me your idea and I'll reply with a free sketch.

Freelance Character Sketch Artist · FreelanceFeb 2026 – Present · 10 mos

Turn written character descriptions into rough black and white sketches that show the character’s look, expression, and posture before any final artwork begins. Authors and creators send me details such as age, personality, clothing, and mood, and I return a sketch quickly so they can see my style and give feedback early. This step helps avoid misunderstandings, saves revision time, and makes sure the character matches the author’s vision before color is added. I also offer a free first sketch to new clients so they can judge my quality with no commitment. Sketches are delivered as clear, high resolution files that can be approved and carried straight into final illustration.

Freelance Fantasy Illustrator · FreelanceJan 2026 – Present · 11 mos

Create detailed fantasy scene illustrations for authors and independent creators, including magical settings, creatures, and character moments from the story. I work from the author’s written descriptions and reference notes, then plan the composition, lighting, and mood so the scene feels true to the world they imagined. Each piece starts with a black and white sketch, so the layout, expressions, and posture can be reviewed and adjusted before any color is added. After approval, I move to final color artwork with a consistent style across all scenes in a project. Files are delivered in high resolution, ready for print and digital publication, including book interiors, covers, and promotional use.
