My name is Ratu, an illustrator based in Indonesia. I have over four years of professional experience in children’s book illustration and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design.
One of the things I am most passionate about is bringing cultural depth into my illustrations. I truly believe that when the colors, textures, and small details in a picture book are rooted in a real place and culture, the story becomes so much more alive and meaningful for young readers.
I love creating illustrations where every detail, from the environment to the expressions of the characters, helps tell a richer and more layered story.

In this book, the main character, Nyah, visits her relatives in Jamaica. Throughout her journey, they explore some of the country’s most well-known places while experiencing its rich culture and traditions.
As the illustrator, this project gave me the opportunity to learn so much about Jamaican culture. I also enjoyed exploring the country’s beautiful flora and fauna, drawing inspiration from them to create the book’s visual world. It was a rewarding experience to bring the vibrant spirit of Jamaica to life through my illustrations.
