Writing is at the heart of everything I do. I can simplify complex information into unambiguous instructions and guidance for more general consumption. I have a strong understanding of IT from the end user perspective and have applied this knowledge in both educational and commercial business environments.
I enjoy helping people understand IT and have a lot of experience in both end user testing and user interface design in applications and web sites. I created and ran dozens of IT training sessions for Higher Education colleagues on a variety of IT systems and applications, and have written hundreds of FAQs, knowledge base articles, as well as newsletters and web site updates.

Having written non-fiction (manuals, websites, articles, books) for almost my entire writing career to date, the chance to dive into a modern VR game and write hundreds of lines of dialogue for actors and help shape the story and evolution of ‘Thief VR’ (even for just six weeks) was a challenge I knew I had to at least try. Writing background dialogue for ‘extras’ and then swathes of dialogue for the two ‘leads’ was an invigorating process. Not only was I able to evolve their characters’ relationship as the game progressed, but I was also able to suggest subtle and significant changes to key elements within the game narrative and amend one key game element whilst ensuring it worked within the current UI.
A 325+ page non-fiction hardback book due for publication by Fusion Retro Books in July/August 2026. This book is the result of my personal experiences from the eighties and nineties in UK computer game publishing and twenty-five years of continuous research, including dozens of personal interviews with relevant industry people. The book is illustrated with hundreds of images, including many of my own photographs and scans.
The book chronicles the entire company history from inception to closure of two highly successful UK game publishing labels from the 1980s and 1990s. It is a follow-up volume to my first book ‘Memories of Firebird’ which was published in September 2024 by Telos Publishing.
From 2004 - 2013, and then 2020 to the present, I have written approaching 50 articles for the UK magazine Retro Gamer, detailing the history of individuals, developers, publishers and specific titles produced by the UK games publishing industry during the formative periods of the industry (typically 1981-2000).
