Ron Butler has more than 35 years of experience in project management, market research, public relations, marketing communications and journalism. For CCN’s work on Federal projects as well as those of CCN commercial clients, Ron serves CCN as Project Manager, Point of Contact, and lead writer and research director.
Ron has created and shaped corporate, public affairs, and product promotion programs, including new product and technology launches, for companies in a variety of industries, such as information technology, biotechnology, foods, dairy, turf, animal health, and agricultural seed and chemicals. Prior to the launch of CCN as an independent company in 1992, Ron was Managing Account Supervisor for Fleishman-Hillard, Inc., providing public relations counsel and management for BASF, Pioneer-Hi-Bred International, Sandoz Crop Protection, and other clients.
In Federal contracting Ron recently was Project Manager, Point of Contact, head of research and lead writer for the Food and Drug Administration cell culture technology research program. This study came as time grew near for FDA to develop guidelines and regulations for labeling of the new food products being developed from cell culture technology. This research and final report provided FDA staff with the current (as of late 2021) status of U.S. companies in the new industry, their leadership, technology, public posture, products in development, financing, and challenges they face in scaling up for commercial launch. Economic, environmental, social, ethical, and demographic concerns and issues helping drive this industry also were elaborated.
Earlier Ron was project manager, editor, and co-designer for projects of the U.S. Marshals Service Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS). CCN redesigned and edited the JPATS FY 2016 and FY 2017 Annual Reports and contributed recommendations to update the JPATS Strategic Plan. Ron was CCN project manager and lead writer for the Department of the Interior’s Guide to Indian Water Rights. This work required development of research and understanding of water rights history, issues, treaties, Executive Orders, laws, regulations, and other factors impacting water rights for Native Americans and non-Native claimants.
Previously Ron served in the same capacity on a series of three Pilot Studies and a multi-year, multi-media outreach program for the Federal Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the National Dam Safety Review Board. The objective was to increase awareness of the critical importance of Emergency Action Plans for state-regulated High-Hazard Potential Dams. These programs involved Ron’s extensive research into Federal and State dam safety regulations, statutes, policies, issues, stakeholders, and obstacles to emergency planning. This “grassroots” program was highly focused on individual states.
