Industry Experience

paper BBQ Restaurant on Golf Course

This project began as a simple refresh on an extremely tight budget. The client initially wanted design consultation to pick colors, furniture and lighting suggestions. It evolved into a complete refresh where I was tasked with a bar design and complete with furniture and ceiling plans.
The existing condition was that of an older home-cooking style restaurant. The new owner wanted a restaurant that fit the BBQ menu but also would be comfortable for day golfers and evening entertainment.

The restaurant adjourned the golf store and vestibule so the design couldn’t deviate too far from that. We developed a design that brought in newer finishes, lighting and furniture. We updated the seating with booths, banquets, floating table and chairs including high chairs and bar seating. The paint was refreshed with a slight darker color to give a backdrop to the golfing decor mixed with rustic framed artwork of the owners original BBQ restaurant.

As the project was phased, some elements was installed or arrived before others. For example, seating came in before bar equipment. Immediately, the golf clientele gravitated to the newer more comfortable seats to make themselves at home. While this create a challenge to work around customers, it was gratifying to see the customers enjoy the space.

Both the BBQ owner and the City ( appreciated the new space). I was later contracted to provide furniture for the vestibule with updates to the golf store planned.

    paper Massage Retreat

This was a tenant finish-out for a small spa. SDF Designs was contracted to develop the initial layout based on the client’s needs, create design development drawings and construction documents.

SDF Designs assisted the client in material specifications, lighting needs and finishes. While the client purchased most of the materials (tile, flooring, etc.) directly, I was instrumental in guiding the client in developing a coherent design scheme.

I coordinated with both the owner and the general contractor to develop construction documents based from as-built drawings with adjustments from additional site visits, as well as MEP Consultant to complete the drawings are required.

Drawings were submitted to the City and to the Accessibility Review (for ADA requirements). SDF Designs managed the complete process of submitting to the city for permit and the the Accessibility Reviewer for ADA requirements.
