I hold a PhD in History and I have produced podcasts for nearly a decade, honing my skills in every part of audio production. As a public historian, I have produced indie podcasts for 9 years, including Pax Britannica, The History of Witchcraft, and Winds of Change. I was shortlisted for the 2023 Independent Podcast Awards and I'm a 2024 BBC HistoryExtra Public Historian. I have presented my research at public and academic events, as well as for radio and as a guest on other podcasts. From my recent role as a university lecturer, I have developed my collaborative and presentation skills, with substantial experience communicating to a wide audience. I am passionate about the value history podcasts offer for public history, and I'm as proficient in front of the mic as I am in the studio. I am a professionally trained historian, with substantial experience working with a vast range of sources. Over the course of my career, I have worked with archived manuscripts, digitised newspaper records, academic historical works, and oral testimonies, and I bring this research skill to my work. My thesis was on the British Empire during the First World War, but I have an unending curiosity for all aspects of history. I can speak confidently on subjects as varied as how ancient Iranians believed tea protected from demons to the personalities of 20th century Australian politics, to the ramifications of the British Empire in the modern world. As a producer, I have several years of experience working on every aspect of audio production. I am well versed in using DAWs such as ProTools and Adobe Audition, as well as helpful tools like Descript and Riverside. I am a very capable writer and editor of scripts, and I find the balance between information and entertainment. I am highly experienced in discovering and booking guest contributors, with dozens of interviews across three different podcasts and on a wide variety of subjects. I am highly capable of planning on-site recordings, and well-versed in preparing pre-interview briefs. I have many years of experience organising travel, accommodation, and events, and can use this experience when scheduling presenters and contributors.
