With a keen eye for detail and the need to know how things work, studying architectural technology was perfect for me. Since graduating, I have spent 10 years building a diverse career within the construction industry. My experience can be defined by distinct chapters; within architecture, I progressed from assisting architectural technologist on large scale MOD projects to then working in bespoke residential housing design, and interior design for small scale commercial works. I then focused on large retirement living schemes and listed building renovations, which eventually led to working in delivering planning applications and design packages for large residential development sites. I identified a particular love for interior architecture, modular construction and working with historic or existing buildings, with a focus on designing to improve layout functionality and quality, creating places for future use. I recently launched a small business designing apparel, sharpening my skills in hand drawing and graphic design. This multi disciplined background transitioned me into the world of themed entertainment, where I create construction models and technical drawings for theme parks and exhibitions, whilst recently stepping into a BIM management role for select projects. Whilst my path has been varied, it is united by a consistent ability to interpret a client brief and deliver good design to tight budgets and often tight deadlines. It has also made me extremely adaptable with a consistent hunger to learn and develop. Whilst each project brings its challenges, I have learnt to find joy in the ‘difficult’ projects, ones that require engaging in alternate ways such as problem solving as a creative outlet. I have also learnt that the value of design is subjective but I believe it can be measured by the experience of a space and how it makes you feel. I am seeking a position where I can use this broad experience and be a part of creating meaningful design that leaves an impression, on those that experience it. Additionally, in 2020, I founded a company, designing, making and shipping petwear worldwide. The skills I learnt led to the creation of Butty Bach, a children and adult apparel design business, where I handraw bespoke designs. Starting a business is challenging, especially without a team of people. I have embraced the challenge and taken the opportunity to learn new skills, especially in graphic design, illustration, branding, financing and marketing. I have also advanced my skills with new and old softwares such as illustrator, photoshop and Procreate.
