Hi there! My name is Seb, a twenty-something-year-old creative designer located in Falmouth, Cornwall UK. A freelancer of seven years, I specialise in bold, energetic graphic design and illustration and have a wealth of experience in a variety of industries. I really want to take on more publications and book illustration work to develop and showcase my illustrative skills. I'm also very interested in working within the education sector such as producing vivid educational tools for primary school pupils or creating storybooks that communicate complex and unconventional concepts. I embrace challenges in my creative practice and am always looking to expand my praxis and experiment with fresh creative perspectives and innovations. I'm currently completing a Master's Degree in Communication Design where I am exploring new and innovative ways to apply my illustration and narrative skills to other areas of design such as editorial, motion graphics and speculative design - a few projects from my first term can be seen in my portfolio. Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to produce creative work for a variety of industries including education, film marketing, publication, advertising and non-profit organisations. Some key clients include Fiverr Social, Budweiser USA, Studio Suzo, Vouchr, TryKind Clothing and motion design agency Vidsy (with which I produced work for J20, Barclays, eBay, Yves Saint Laurent, Deliveroo, Starz and Warners Bros. Games to name a few).

I really want to take on more publications and book illustration work to develop and showcase my illustrative skills. I’m also very interested in working within the education sector such as producing vivid educational tools for primary school pupils or creating storybooks that communicate complex and unconventional concepts.

I embrace challenges in my creative practice and am always looking to expand my praxis and experiment with fresh creative perspectives and innovations. I’m currently completing a Master’s Degree in Communication Design where I am exploring new and innovative ways to apply my illustration and narrative skills to other areas of design such as editorial, motion graphics and speculative design - a few projects from my first term can be seen in my portfolio.

Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to produce creative work for a variety of industries including education, film marketing, publication, advertising and non-profit organisations. uniE608 Việt Nam Muôn Năm (or Viva Vietnam) | Short Graphic Story
When I lived in Vietnam, I was in a much different (much darker) place than I am now. And though it’s been four years since that part of my life has ended, I have never really touched on it in an artistic way. ‘Viet Nam Muôn Năm (or Viva Vietnam)’ aims to do exactly that, not just as an artistic expression but as a form of self-healing and acceptance and the delivery of an ultimately positive message about living with mental illness. This four-page graphic story visualises one of those ‘moments’ - the day when Vietnam played (and lost) to Uzbekistan in the U23 Asian Cup Final. It follows a teacher (me) as he deals with the mundane and mentally painful routine he’s sculpted for himself in the midst of a mental breakdown. But one day he is exposed to the contagious positivity of the Vietnamese people in a time of celebration and unity and for a moment feels utter ‘clarity’ and happiness. I made some really bad decisions in Vietnam, all of which ultimately led to the worst state my mental health had ever been in. But what I distinctly remember are these little moments of clarity which I firmly believe, kept me from being tipped over the edge. A highly personal project in nature, ‘Viet Nam Muôn Năm (or Viva Vietnam)’ illustrates the profoundly positive effect these ‘moments of clarity’ can have on mental illness sufferers highlighting just how important these moments can be. In making this comic, I wanted to share a personal experience about mental health, one that promotes hope, positivity and appreciation of the present moment in the face of hopelessness.
    uniE608 'Create-tures' | Designer's Trump Cards
These cards act as a tool-kit to navigating the 'creatures' you may encounter on the journey of the creative process. The point of the cards is to communicate the importance of acknowledging how our personal qualities & characteristics are intertwined with our design processes and also how parts of our inventory can be utilised effectively for design purposes - even those parts of us that we tend to resent like anxiety and insecurity. For example, if a designer is given a brief requesting a series of posters for a campaign against animal abuse, they can refer to the cards to check which part of their inventory is best suited to the project or which parts could provide an alternative avenue. This artefact is three parts personal experiment, fun premium product design and a tool for creatives. As a tool, the cards should help designers and artists approach a brief differently, specifically by referring to parts of themselves that perhaps they wouldn’t have considered before. Each card pictures a character which represents a part of my personal inventory. The card explains who or what they are, their behavioural traits and how you should respond to them when you encounter them. The card explains also how or why this particular creature is a helpful or unhelpful companion to take with you on the design process journey by shedding light on their pros and cons i.e. humour which is great if used correctly for a brief, but detrimental if not. The choice is yours. Using my own ‘stylised’ aesthetic, I illustrated each character using a selection of fine liners and mark-making skills and then give them vivid varying colour schemes. In its simplest form, the cards are there to communicate how all the little parts that make us up can inform the way we design and think creatively. Some of these parts are highly useful, some highly irritating but never inherently good or bad. #illustration #graphicdesign #characterdesign #creaturedesign #playingcards #trumpcards #creativetool #createtures #graphicdesigner #illustrator #designer #branding #handdrawn #productdesign
