Shaye Swanson is a composer, arranger, and vocalist from Los Angeles, California. The first documentary feature she scored, Road to 50 Miles, was screened at La Femme International Film Festival, Hollywood Screenings Festival, and streamed on Adventure+. She scored three shorts as well: the documentary short Faith Alone which aired on PBS’ Fine Cut, Synthetiquette which premiered at Afrokin Film Festival, and the sci-fi short Self, which won the audience award for best narrative short at SF Indie Film Festival. Shaye is currently writing music for the action feature The Final Stretch directed by AJ Singh. Shaye assisted Genevieve Vincent and was her technical music assistant on three feature films: The Stand, Have You Heard of Judi Singh?, and In Flight streaming on Apple TV+. She is also approaching her 4th year as an assistant at the film-composer agency Kraft - Engel Management. In addition to scoring, Shaye has written music to choreographed dance, including Process, which was performed at the American College Dance Association Baja Conference as well as Under Control which premiered at Variance Dance Concert. She was an artist in residence at Dartmouth College for which she workshopped her dance opera Interior and won the Bold Ventures Grant from the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation. Most recently, she had her choral composition, “Nights Without Sleep” programmed in C3LA’s concert SeeThruLA. ​​Shaye earned her M.M. in Music Composition from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (California State University, Long Beach) and her B.M. in Vocal Performance (minor in composition) from Lawrence University. At Lawrence University, Shaye studied with Joanne Metcalf, Patricia A Darling, and Asha Srinivasan. During her collegiate career at Long Beach, she studied with esteemed composers Dr. Torres-Santos, Dr. Shockley, Dr. Adriana Verdié, and the Director of Jazz studies Jeff Jarvis. Shaye had compositions workshopped by Brightwork Newmusic Ensemble, Argus String Quartet, C3LA, Los Angeles Percussion Ensemble, and the prestigious Concert Jazz Orchestra at CSULB. During her studies, Shaye had the privilege of having her composition Les Echoes commissioned by the group Vis A Vis which was performed on their North and South American tours for Zaandam Cruises.
