Simar Brar Parks is a multidisciplinary filmmaker, editor, and post-production specialist whose career spans advertising, feature films, documentary television, and independent cinema across India and Canada. She began her journey in Bombay in 2015 as an Assistant Director, working with some of India’s most notable production houses and creative teams. Early in her career, she collaborated with Ogilvy India on major commercial work, before joining Studio One, where she directed her first commercial campaign — Nescafé’s “Shak Shake It” featuring actress Deepika Padukone.
Simar went on to work closely within the filmmaking ecosystem of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, contributing during the production periods of iconic films including Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat. Her post-production path continued into the Hindi film industry, where she contributed as an Editor on acclaimed feature films such as Udta Punjab and Gully Boy. She later served as a Senior Editor at Discovery Channel India, shaping long-form storytelling and factual content for national broadcast.
After relocating to Canada, Simar expanded into independent filmmaking and founded Black Jacket Films, a boutique production studio crafting cinematic wedding films and editorial-style photography. As Founder & Lead Editor, she has directed and delivered more than 100 wedding films and photography collections across India and abroad, known for a narrative-driven cinematic approach and meticulous post-production craft. Her short film credits include Abyss (Film & Trailer Editor — Official Selection: Canada Shorts & Toronto Shorts International Film Festival 2023), Uncomfy (DI Colourist & Final Finishing Lead), and Over the Edge (Trailer Editor — edit, sound design & typography).
Simar’s work combines emotional truth with technical precision — colour, sound, pacing, and visual tone — with a guiding belief that powerful storytelling lives in honest, human moments. She continues to explore narrative and documentary expression across film and real-world celebration, guided by the philosophy behind Black Jacket Films:
“Let the moment live forever.”
