Stephen Dickinson (b. 1974, Kent, England) first gained musical employment at 15 years old as piano accompanist for amateur ballet classes in his local area. At the age of 17, he wrote his first musical which secured him a place on a Batchelor of Arts Degree studying Music at Colchester where he gained honours in Composition under Alan Bullard. Stephen has since worked extensively across the UK as a specialist dance accompanist and composer for over twenty years including contracts with the prestigious Royal Ballet School, Royal Academy of Dance, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Contemporary Dance amongst many others. Stephen has also travelled and performed internationally, with a trip to Kyoto, Japan in 2013 performing repertoire from Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, a personal highlight of his. Alongside his industrious accompanist work, Stephen has been heavily immersed in composition and improvisation. Together with writing music at the London Film School and private tutorage with Barrington Pheloung, Stephen was commissioned to compose a total of six bespoke orchestral ballet scores over the course of twelve years which were each performed at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury for a week long run. Now retired from professional accompanist work, Stephen continues to compose both for the piano as a solo instrument and within an ensemble.
