Pickle (ShopOnPickle) is a peer-to-peer fashion rental marketplace in New York, often described as the Airbnb for closets. It lists 300,000+ items, offers same-day delivery in major cities, and has raised $20M.
The challenge: after closing its seed round, the platform slowed under growing traffic. Pickle needed real-time inventory, secure identity verification and infrastructure that could scale across three cities at once.
What we built (about a year): a fully serverless marketplace, with React and Next.js on the web, React Native for iOS and Android, and AWS behind it (Lambda, DynamoDB, AppSync GraphQL, Amplify, API Gateway). Server-side rendering in Next.js handled SEO and initial page loads for a 500 percent performance improvement, and Stripe powers payments and identity verification.
Result: the rebuilt platform handled peak traffic across web and mobile, and Pickle went on to raise a $12M Series A.
