As a child, he loved comics and started copying the superhero characters he saw in those books. He attended Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, California, and received an Associate of Arts in Commercial Art and Illustration. After moving to San Francisco, Tony attended California College of the Arts. His final thesis portfolio was titled 'Terror and the Supernatural.' This body of work was inspired by the short stories of such authors as Edgar Allan Poe, Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch, and Ambrose Bierce, to name a few. His influences in art are varied and include John Singer Sargent, George Bellows, Thomas Eakins, Burne Hogarth, Norman Lindsay, Robert George Harris, Robert McGinnis, Frank Frazetta, Bron, and pulp-era artists like Norman Saunders. There are contemporary concept artists that he is also influenced by. Tony is ever inspired by the history and atmosphere of San Francisco which helps his constant pursuit and growth of his art.
