My name is Blake Bertram, and I am a graphic design student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, currently pursuing a Graphic Design Technical Certificate along with an
Associate of Arts, General Studies.
Since 2021, I have been working full time while pursuing my degree. I am definitely a non-traditional student, and I have taken breaks from school, enrolled in summer classes, and been a student both full-time and part-time – I have had just about every college experience a person can have over the past five years. I have spent most of my working life as a restaurant employee, which I credit with helping me to build a strong work ethic and to develop professional social skills. I feel that I have gotten to live a very full life while being a student and a member of the workforce, and that experience inspires much of my art.
My true love is illustration. I feel confident in my ability to follow prompts and client requests in my illustrations. I also feel confident in my own creativity to further develop those ideas. I can work very technically as well — I am a strong logo designer, and I enjoy editorial work. I can work with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, or WordPress. I am most accustomed to Adobe, but I am willing to learn any software necessary. I draw both traditionally and digitally. My traditional process depends on the medium used, but I prefer using watercolor, ink, gouache, or charcoal. Along with graphic design and illustration, I enjoy film photography, embroidery, and collage.
