We’re excited to announce significant updates to Twine’s commission structure, designed to empower both our clients and freelancers. These changes make Twine even more competitive and cost-effective, ensuring a seamless and beneficial experience for our entire community.
What’s Changed?
Commissions for Clients:
Posting a job on Twine remains absolutely free. The only time commission comes into play is when you pay a freelancer through the platform using Twine Vault. You can pay freelancers directly outside of the Twine platform, incurring no commission fees.
We’ve made substantial reductions to our Twine Vault commission fees, especially for smaller projects, making it easier for businesses to access top talent without high platform costs.
- 10% commission on payments up to $10,000.
- 5% commission on payments over $10,000.
- No commission on direct payments made off the platform.
- Significant Savings: We’ve reduced this from 20% commission on projects up to $1,000, offering a 50% reduction in fees. For example, a $1000 project now saves clients $100 compared to the previous structure.
Commissions for Freelancers:
Freelancers continue to pay only transaction fees on some payments made through Twine Vault. These transaction fees are set by the chosen payment providers and cover the costs they charge for processing payments. Twine makes no profit from transaction fees. Depending on your payout method, some transaction fees may even be as low as 0%. If you’re a Twine Pro member, there’s no transaction fees at all. Additionally, Freelancers also have the option to bill clients directly outside of Twine, incurring no transaction fees. Overall,
- Free-tier: Transaction fees set by the payment provider
- Twine Pro: No transaction fees
- Payments outside of Twine: No transaction fees
So whether you’re using Twine Vault for extra security or handling direct payments your way, you’re in full control.
Twine Pro Advantage:
We’ve replaced the traditional commission model with an optional subscription approach for freelancers.
So what does this mean for you?
- Predictable costs: No surprises. You know exactly what you’re paying each month – $13.99 / £11.99.
- Complete freedom: Communicate directly with clients via Zoom, email, phone, or even in-person meetings without restrictions. Invoice clients your way, on your terms.
- Tiered access: Our free tier provides a limited number of monthly applications, while Twine Pro unlocks 50 applications and direct access to client contact details.
- Get noticed more often. Pro members receive priority placement in client searches and recommendations, substantially increasing your hiring potential.
- Keep what you earn. With no traditional commissions or transactional fees, Pro members keep 100% of their earnings on every project.
We believe this creates a simpler, more transparent experience for freelancers and clients alike.
Understanding Off-Platform Payments
At Twine, we give clients the flexibility to choose how they want to communicate with freelancers—whether through email, WhatsApp, or phone. This flexibility extends to payments, allowing you to arrange payments outside of the Twine platform if that works better for your situation.
While direct off-platform payments carry no commission fees/transaction fees, they also come without Twine’s built-in security and guarantees. For this reason, we strongly recommend that even if you connect outside of Twine, you insist on processing payments through Twine Vault for maximum security and support.
Why We’re Making This Change
We’re implementing these changes because we believe that platform costs shouldn’t stand in the way of creativity and collaboration. Our mission has always been to empower creators (both clients and freelancers) by giving them the tools and freedom to bring their ideas to life.
Reducing our commission rates and offering Twine Pro is about more than just cutting costs — it’s about creating a space where talent and opportunity connect effortlessly. We want you to have the freedom to communicate and collaborate however you prefer. We encourage open communication and flexibility, whether it’s through Twine or outside of Twine. We want businesses to access top-tier creative talent without budget barriers, and freelancers to thrive without worrying about hefty platform fees.
This change brings us one step closer to building a truly supportive, flexible, and transparent community for all, where creators are empowered to work on their own terms.
