This album (10 tracks) represents one of the most technically challenging and rewarding projects I’ve worked on to date. Mixed and mastered by yours truly, the project demanded precise control over every element of the sound, pushing both my technical skills and creative approach to new levels.
I adopted a hybrid mixing workflow, working primarily in-the-box using Pro Tools, which allowed for meticulous editing, precise automation, and detailed tonal shaping. High-quality plugins, including the Plugin Alliance SSL Channel Strip, were used to sculpt the tone and dynamic balance of each element in the mix, ensuring clarity, punch, and cohesion across the track.
Once the digital mix was finalized, the stereo signal was routed through analog hardware to impart character, warmth, and harmonic richness. Specifically, a RHEA Vari-Mu compressor added depth and dynamic subtlety, while NEVE 542 tape emulators provided a gentle saturation that enhanced musicality without compromising transparency.
Spatial and time-based effects were carefully applied using the legendary AMS RMX16, delivering lush reverbs and delays that created depth, dimension, and a sense of space. Every delay, reverb tail, and modulation was positioned intentionally to support the track’s emotional arc and musical narrative.
The finished mix highlights the interplay between sonic precision and musical expression, balancing technical polish with the energy and feeling of the performance. The track is now available on Spotify, iTunes, and all other major streaming platforms. I’m incredibly proud of the result and grateful to have been part of such a technically and artistically fulfilling project.
“Meet the Frownies” by Mr Twin Sister captures a blend of introspective warmth and nostalgic intimacy, creating a soundscape that feels both familiar and emotionally rich. Originally recorded by the indie pop outfit, this track unfolds like a snapshot of quiet moments shared — drifting through the changing seasons and the simple pleasures of connection.
At its core, the song explores the subtleties of human connection: relaxed conversations, laughter in the backyard, and the lingering feeling of comfort found in another’s presence. With its dreamy melodic flow and reflective lyrics, “Meet the Frownies” becomes more than a song — it’s an evocative journey through fleeting yet meaningful moments.
From the laid‑back verses that evoke afternoons spent together, to the contemplative mood carried through the chorus, the production blends organic instrumentation with atmospheric elements that echo the band’s signature indie‑pop charm.
This track resonates with listeners not only for its lyrical intimacy but also for its ability to embody a sense of place and emotional realism — whether it’s the sound of falling leaves, the hush before parting, or the subtle comfort of shared silence.
This video captures a live set performance recorded and engineered on location, showcasing the raw energy and atmospheric depth of a real‑time musical moment. As the recording engineer, I was responsible for capturing the full sonic experience of the performance, ensuring clarity, balance, and presence throughout the live mix. A live set presents unique challenges compared to studio work — from managing spill between microphones to capturing the dynamic interplay of instruments and crowd energy — and this recording reflects that immediacy and vibrance.
During the session, I carefully placed microphones, set up recording levels, and monitored the audio in real time to preserve the nuances of the performance while maintaining technical precision. Being on the ground for a live recording demands quick decision‑making and deep familiarity with both the music and the recording environment, and this set exemplifies that blend of technical skill and musical engagement.
The finished recording conveys the momentum of the performance as experienced in the moment, with all its organic flow, improvisational spirit, and spatial richness. I’m proud of how this live capture communicates not just the music, but the ambience and connection of a live audience and performers co‑existing in the shared space.
“Meadows” is an evocative electronic/ambient composition by Shaun Kirsten, engineered by Juan Manosalva with atmospheric guitar textures by Jon Hirons. This piece represents a journey through sound and space, blending lush electronic textures with organic instrumental elements to create a listening experience that’s both immersive and emotionally resonant.
From its opening tones, “Meadows” invites the listener into a sonic landscape where crisp electronic production meets expressive musicality, bridging the digital and the human in subtle, thoughtful ways. The arrangement balances rich harmonic depth with spatial ambience, allowing each layer to breathe and interact in a way that feels both intimate and expansive.
Throughout the production process, meticulous care was taken in shaping the sonic identity of the track. The mix highlights detailed sound design and harmonic balance, creating a sense of presence and warmth that draws the listener in. Whether experienced at full volume or as a backdrop to reflection, “Meadows” captures both atmosphere and intention with clarity and finesse.
“Meadows” continues to connect with audiences through its thoughtful blend of electronic textures and musical nuance, showcasing the collaborative strengths of its contributors and the immersive potential of contemporary electronic composition.
An electronic track composed by Wilma in Sydney, Australia, and mixed and mastered by yours truly, represents one of the most ambitious and technically intricate projects I’ve worked on. The sonic design of this piece pushed my mixing and mastering skills to new creative heights, balancing precision with expressive depth.
For this track, I employed a hybrid in-the-box workflow using Pro Tools, carefully sculpting frequencies and dynamics with high-quality plugins like the Plugin Alliance SSL Channel Strip. Once the mix was finalised digitally, I routed the stereo output through analog hardware to add warmth, depth, and subtle harmonic color—utilizing a RHEA Vari-Mu compressor and NEVE 542 tape emulators to bring out richness and character.
Spatial and time-based effects were a key focus: the legendary AMS RMX16 provided lush reverbs and delays, helping the track breathe and giving the electronic textures a distinct sense of space and movement.
This track is now available across all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and iTunes. I’m extremely proud of the result and grateful for the opportunity to explore the creative possibilities of electronic music in such depth.
