This eerie, twisted short film follows a woman who is compelled by her TV at Midnight every night, to indulge in a disgusting snack and expand her mind. I was the Cinematographer for this project, and the main challenge was realising, in practical ways, how to pull of the striking and vivid images that the Director Luke Roulstone had in mind, as he wanted to do as much in camera as possible. Which involved extensive testing and implementing of various camera and lighting techniques. The piece of work was acknowledged by the British Society of Cinematographers by being included in the top 10 shorts in their Short Film Cinematography Competition 2020.
For this project, I needed to create a short story that showcased the look and versatility of a particular set of cinematography lenses. The story revolves around a woman, travelling home from work, who starts to experience an anxiety attack and tries to reconnect with the person she wishes she could be to cope with it. The project involved writing the story, securing locations and cast and crew, 2 days of shooting and 1 day of editing the piece.
In this recording of one of the English National Opera rehearsal sessions, as Cinematographer I gathered the crew and spec’d out the equipment needed and ran the multi camera department on the day. As well as working with the Venue lighting technician to set the tone I also operated the main gimbal camera to achieve cinematic camera movement for the piece.
