Jessica Orfe is a Chicago native & Honolulu resident artist. She began drawing at a young age, inspired by nature, wildlife, natural phenomena, and a desire for understanding those things. She loves illustrating various creatures and getting out into ‘the wild’ to spot them. Finding patterns and similarities in plant forms, animal anatomies, or landscapes connects us to a bigger picture, an interwoven planetary web. Her work is versatile in medium and scale, ranging from traditional paintings, designs, book illustrations, to murals. Complimenting her keen interest in natural phenomena is a more rooted interest in environmental conservation and sustainability, natural resource management, and learning about various animal species and their behaviors & habitats. She stays involved with other artists and events with collectives including HWS, AHA, GNSI, IASD and SCBWI, to name a few. She has also had the privilege of participating in some amazing Artist-in-Residence programs. Her formal education includes summer geology coursework at Columbia's Biosphere II in AZ, a BA in Studio Arts (2006, University of Chicago), a PBC (2009, School of the Art Institute of Chicago) and an MFA in Painting and Drawing (2013, University of Hawaii at Manoa).
