Born in Athens in 1980, Christos ZOUMPOS grew up in the suburb of Nea Smyrni and attended the Lycée Léonin (greek-french independent school) where he was first taught music. Along with his admission in the Law School, he began lessons of piano and theory with composer Thodoris Ksydias and later he enrolled the Conservatory of Neos Kosmos to study advanced music theory. During this period he has worked as a professional musician in concerts and night clubs. In 2005 he has been admitted (writing assessment) to the Conservatoire N.R. de Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, in the class of orchestration where he studied for 3 years. Afterwards he undertook the Master of Arts in Composition in City University London. During his study in London he has also joined the orchestra conducting classes given by Denise Ham in Blackheath Conservatoire. In 2016 he enrolled the Certification in Education program of the University of Crete, his dissertation being on teaching through contemporary music in primary schools. He holds diplomas of Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue, a certificate of orchestration, a Master of Arts in Composition and a PGC in Music Education. He has been taught by Theodora Zouvelou, Pierre Grouvel, Pierre Farago, Rhian Samuel and Ilias Nikolaidis. He has written concert music, music for commercials, short films, video art and theater, he has made transcriptions of works by Greek and foreign composers and has worked as technical advisor in music copyright claim trials. In May 2014, he has been awarded the 2nd price for his piece Anaplasis (for solo flute and music sound-scape) by the Greek Composers' Union and in November of the same year he was amongst the ten young composers selected for the workshop of the Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the 1st edition of the “Yorgos Sicilianos Composition Competition” run by the Athens Conservatoire and the Greek Composers' Union (April 2016), he received the 3rd price (1st price not given) for his work Bacchus, suite for 8 performers. In July 2017 he has been awarded the 2nd price for the Sofia International Composition Competition (Bulgaria) for his Concertino for Trumpet & Strings. In December 2018, he won the price for best OST for the short film Anchorwoman by Giannis Monastiropoulos in the Parana International Film Festival (Argentina). For the same OST, he was amongst the price nominees in Palm Springs Festival, California (USA) in January 2020. His music and transcriptions have been performed by Conservatoire de B.B. Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, the Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Soloists string orchestra, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra and various soloists in London and Athens. Currently, he has the honor to serve as professor of music theory at the Athens Conservatoire College of Music (Goldsmiths, University of London).
