Artist Statement Internal, intimate, bold, kind, loving, simple and eye-catching. All this and more describe both myself and my work. I retell my history in abstract ways through my paintings. My work is often colorful, as I am often colorful, it’s also as straightforward as I am. It speaks to a defiance of life's miseries, a rebellious determination to live in spite of everything. My subjects are living creatures, often humans. I celebrate and encourage them. I show their struggles but make sure to highlight their strengths. Love is what I pour into each piece, hope is what I seek to bring, and a vibrant smile in the face of despair is what I illustrate. Life has not been easy by any means. It’s been a struggle. And I survived because I’ve been determined to rebel against despair. My rebelion isn’t violent, instead it’s kind and hopeful and loving. That is what I put into my work.
