    The fine detail on this creature wasn't sculpted in high resolution. It was painted on as a height map and plugged into a Normal Map Node to cerate bumps and wrinkles on the creature. You can see from the mesh (I modeled it in Blender) there are only about 12,000 faces on it. That makes it posable, and animatable. The hair is made using alpha maps on planes (called hair cards). The creature can be used in a video game or animation. 3D Modeling allows for easier editing and more realistic lighting.

    These creatures were modeled in 3D in Blender. The background was created in mandelbulber. The detail on the creatures was achieved by texture painting the height map (creating a normal map) onto the low poly model (about 12,000 faces). The entire layered scene was edited and painted on using GIMP. illustrator
