I’m Diego B. Gleeson (aka Scoutart) and I was originally born in Mexico. I am excited to submit my application for your open Animator position. I just finished my Mentorship Program in Computer Animation, Effects, and Game Design at Think Tank Training Center and a certification in 3D Character Animation at Vancouver Institute of Media Arts, both from Vancouver, B.C. Animation is my passion and lifestyle, and since I was a kid, my dream has been to become a Digital Animator of the most crucial animation team in the world and to learn and contribute with courage and professionalism to developing projects that can help make a positive difference.
Your job offer mentions that you want character animators who can demonstrate an understanding of acting, attractiveness, entertainment, weight, locomotion, anatomy, and dialogue, and with a strong point of view who put a personal spin on their work, not to mention the background skills in the medium of Hand Drawn and Stop-Motion animation. At the Think Tank Training Center, with the help of my mentors, I developed personal skills that helped me to turn my fear of being different into a driving force to overcome the obstacles that stood in my way, thus strengthening my dream of becoming a good animator. Professionally, I learned more about the portfolio production process and improved detail-oriented skills in 3D animation, Maya and Motion Builder, 2D, 3D, and hand drawing, even technically about to experiment Blender software. I learned strong drawing skills, the psychology of animated images, acting, and structuring with visual language resources for demo projects, demo reels, and short films at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts. I learned about the animation production process, 3D techniques, traditional themes and artistic aspects, traditional foundations, modeling, setting, and digital cinematography I learned at Escena - Digital Animation & Arts in Mexico City.
Overall, technically speaking, I have experimented different mediums of animation, especially stop-motion for more than 9 years. And for more than six years, I made experimental short films to participate in the 48-Hour Film Festival in Mexico, where I only had 48 hours to create short films whose genre was given randomly and had to include three surprise elements: one character, one dialogue, and one object. This event taught me to handle some storyboards where I had planned the shots of a complete story, designed characters and contexts before creating them with the digital tools I had at my disposal, and sometimes using unconventional filming equipment like an iPhone, an iPad, and a digital camera. What I learned through these competitions and being a freelance worker is to be resilient, open-minded, respectful, and punctual, to adapt to work in different conditions, to be part of a team, to strengthen my personality and character, and never give up, despite technical struggles.
