Hello! I'm Elizabeth Anne Breckenkamp. I retired in March 2021 with 29 years serving in the Regular Army, Army Reserve, and Army Active Guard Reserve. I began my military career in 1992 working as a photojournalist at Fort Rucker, Alabama, then at Torii Station in Okinawa. Due to the Base Realignment and Closures in early 1997, I left the Regular Army, returned home to Virginia, and enlisted in the Army Reserve. Wanting more challenging assignments, I completed the Army’s licensed practical nurse certification and volunteered to deploy to Iraq and Kuwait. My training command said no to Iraq, but yes to Kuwait. Most of my military work focused on public relations, writing, editing, photography, newspaper layout and design, assisting commanders in speech writing, and writing command messages for various key leaders. Much of my military career, I worked as an LPN at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at Children’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. A prolific writer and editor, my articles and photos can be found in various online and hardcopy publications, such as the Army Reserve Warrior Citizen Magazine, Petersburg Progress-Index, Joint Base Langley-Eustis newspaper, Army Reserve’s At A Glance, and numerous military publications. One of my most meaningful public affairs campaigns was working closely with Chief Warrant Officer 5 Phillip Brashear. I assisted him in running Brashear’s Black History Month Radio Media Tours and conducted extensive coverage of his public speaking and efforts honoring his father, the late Carl Brashear who was made even more famous by the actor Cuba Gooding, Jr., who portrayed Brashear in the feature film “Men of Honor.”
